Synchrophasor communication

e & i Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik, 2013
Synchronized phasor measurements provide the basis for fine-grained wide area power quality monitoring in electric grids. Time-synchronized phasor measurement units (PMUs) are deployed at different locations in the grid and report 10–60 measurements/second to energy management systems or other applications.

Synchrophasor-Assisted Zone 3 Operation

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2014
Zone 3 operation of distance relay serves as a remote backup in case of primary failure. Conditions, such as power swing, load encroachment, and voltage and transient instability, cause incorrect zone 3 operation. The detection of faults during such stressed conditions poses a further problem.

Synchrophasor data availability analyzer

2016 International Conference on Probabilistic Methods Applied to Power Systems (PMAPS), 2016
Wide-area monitoring system (WAMS) is emerging technologies that utilize phasor measurement units (PMUs) combined with highly accurate time synchronization to deliver the time-synchronized phasor data known as “synchrophasor”. To enable more extensive applications from WAMS, an excellent synchrophasor data availability level is a must-have.

Synchrophasors for island detection

2012 38th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference, 2012
Detection and prevention of unintentional islands powered by distributed generators like photovoltaics remains a key concern of utility protection engineers, especially in high-penetration and grid-support environments. These evolving circumstances dictate that new island detection tools are needed.

Cyber secure synchrophasor platform

2011 IEEE/PES Power Systems Conference and Exposition, 2011
Phasor measurement units (PMUs) are rapidly being installed across the USA as part of the DOE Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) programs. Within three years there are expected to be over 1000 PMUs installed by nine SGIG grantees. However, there will be many more installed in distribution networks to help accommodate intermittent power from rooftop ...

Virtual synchrophasor monitoring network

2012 IEEE International Conference on Power System Technology (POWERCON), 2012
Synchrophasors are considered one of the most important measuring quantities in the future of power systems. The main reason of synchrophasor monitoring is to prevent or detect in advance events that may cause failure or even damages of the transmission network. That is why Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) getting increased attention nowadays.

Distribution-Level Synchrophasors Estimation

2018 20th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC), 2018
Various time domain, frequency domain and time-frequency domain methods have been used in literature for the accurate phasor estimation in transmission-level PMUs. This paper assesses the suitability of three such methods, viz., Taylor Weighted Least Square (TWLS), Interpolated Discrete Fourier Transform (IpDFT) and Empirical Wavelet Transform (EWT ...
