From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

DiGeorge's Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

open access: yesArchives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1983
Sir.—Four patients with clinical and laboratory features of DiGeorge's syndrome with a history of maternal alcoholism were described by Ammann et al in the article "The DiGeorge Syndrome and the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome" (Journal1982;136:906-908). In the article (p 906), Ammann and colleagues stated, "Maternal alcoholism may result in the DiGeorge ...

Yeast Gcn2 retains activity following humanization of its auto‐phosphorylation region

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model to study Gcn2 activation and regulation is limited by the lack of antibodies detecting phosphorylated Gcn2. To overcome this, we engineered Gcn2‐HsC, a yeast Gcn2 variant recognizable by commercial anti‐human phospho‐GCN2 antibodies.

Delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins in mice using cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection in mice for delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins. A critical limitation of DNA vaccines and other therapeutics is transfection in vivo to produce the encoded antigens or therapeutic proteins. Cutaneous suction‐based methods have demonstrated effectiveness in many animal models and have been successfully ...

Identification of (20R)‐protopanaxadiol from Panax ginseng as a novel anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 compound

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a noninfectious BAC‐based SARS‐CoV‐2 replicon that enables antiviral screening under BSL‐2 conditions. Using this platform, we screened 373 food‐derived compounds and identified (20R)‐protopanaxadiol from Panax ginseng as a novel inhibitor of SARS‐CoV‐2 RNA replication, highlighting the value of safe replicon systems for antiviral ...

From patient advocacy to patient‐driven research: Building active partnerships beginning at the bench to reach the bedside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Research is strongest when conducted alongside patients, not just about them. Patient research organizations help integrate patient perspectives into research priorities, study design, and scientific meetings, leading to meaningful patient outcomes and development of relevant therapies.

A bivariate method for spatio-temporal syndromic surveillance (article published in proceedings)

open access: yes, 2004
Introduction: Statistical analysis of syndromic data has typically focused on univariate test statistics for spatial, temporal, or spatio-temporal surveillance. However, this approach does not take full advantage of the information available in the data.

Prevalence of Cardiac Anomalies in Children with Syndromic and Non-syndromic Craniosynostosis: Cardiac Anomaly and Craniosynostosis

open access: yes, 2022
Background: Craniosynostosis mostly occurs as a single abnormality; however, it may rarely occur concomitantly with other congenital abnormalities known as syndromic craniosynostosis.
