Addressing Known Challenges in Solar Flare Forecasting I: Limb‐Flare Prediction With a 4π Full‐Heliosphere Framework

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract A demonstrated failure mode for operational solar flare forecasting is the inability to forecast flares that occur near, or just beyond, the solar limb. To address this shortcoming, we develop a “4π $4{\uppi }$” full‐heliosphere event forecasting framework and evaluate its statistical classification ability against this specific challenge.

Slip‐Event Timing and Ice Velocity Vary at Long‐Period Ocean Tidal Frequencies at Whillans Ice Plain, West Antarctica

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Whillans Ice Plain (WIP), a region of West Antarctica flowing into the southern Ross Sea, lurches forward 0.2–0.6 m over 30–60 min once or twice per diurnal ocean tidal cycle. Combining 11 years (2008–2019) of 30 s or better resolution Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data from past field campaigns is necessary to provide insight into

Driving Dynamical Inner‐Heliosphere Models With In Situ Solar Wind Observations

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Accurately reconstructing the solar wind throughout the inner heliosphere is essential for understanding solar–terrestrial interactions and improving space‐weather forecasts. Conventional reconstruction methods rely on photospheric magnetic field observations and coronal models to estimate solar wind conditions near the Sun, typically at 0.1 ...
