Set-aware Entity Synonym Discovery with Flexible Receptive Fields

open access: yes, 2021
Entity synonym discovery (ESD) from text corpus is an essential problem in many entity-leveraging applications, e.g., web search and question answering.

Dual Role of Tamoxifen in Enhancing STING and CEACAM1 Expression to Prime a Favorable Tumor Microenvironment for Anti‐TIM3 Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Anti‐PD‐1/PD‐L1 blockade has revolutionized cancer immunotherapy, but is ineffective against endocrine‐treated (i.e., Tamoxifen), relapsed ER+ breast cancer (BC) patients. This study provides insight into the sub‐optimal response of ER+BCs to anti‐PD‐1/PD‐L1 blockade – highlighting the induction of STING and the CEACAM1/TIM3 axis after chronic ...

The Mind From Within: Visceral Roots of Human Cognition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The physiological activity of visceral organs, such as the heart, the lungs, and the gut, is surprisingly linked to many sophisticated mental operations, such as remembering the past, being aware of ourselves, making choices, and forging social bonds.

Ethical Precision in Nanoscale Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
As brain interfaces approach the nanoscale, precision no longer only measures—it knows, predicts, and potentially reshapes the mind. This work argues that traditional ethics fails under such conditions and proposes a shift toward continuous, operation‐based governance using the recovery–discovery framework to track, constrain, and responsibly steer ...

Functional Disorder at the Neural Interface: How Disordered Nanostructures Promote Proper Growth and Differentiation in In Vitro Neural Cultures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work provides a practical guide for neuroengineers to design advanced neural interfaces, embracing and tailoring the concept of functional disorder. By bridging 2D and 3D in vitro models, this work highlights how non‐periodic, spatially heterogeneous, multiscale nanotopography can enable more physiologically relevant platforms for studying neural ...

Embracing Ambiguity: Improving Similarity-oriented Tasks with Contextual Synonym Knowledge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Contextual synonym knowledge is crucial for those similarity-oriented tasks whose core challenge lies in capturing semantic similarity between entities in their contexts, such as entity linking and entity matching.

Dynamic Regulation of Endogenous Transcription Factor Hubs at Single‐Molecule Resolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines single‐molecule microscopy and genome editing to characterize the dynamic behaviors of endogenous oncofusion transcription factor EWS::FLI1 in Ewing sarcoma cells. EWS::FLI1 forms neomorphic hubs that dynamically assemble and dissolve. The hubs are regulated during mitosis, by RNA, and by specific chemicals.

Synergistic HMGN1 and VP64 Fusions Potentiate High‐Precision and PAM‐Flexible Base Editing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel CDA1Δ‐SpRY architecture fused with HMGN1 and VP64 yields a nearly PAM‐less base editing platform. By focusing cytosine conversion predominantly at position −18, this synergistic complex ensures highly precise targeting. Demonstrating enhanced efficiency across diverse models, including yeast and rice, the platform offers a robust solution for ...

Psychometric modeling of componentially designed synonym tasks

open access: yes, 1997
Cognitive tasks can be analyzed into cognitive components by using a subtask design, with the subtasks representing the components. The multicomponent latent trait model (MLTM; Embretson, 1980, 1984) was used here for three different tasks: providing a ...
