Aerodynamic Loading Due to Non-Synoptic Wind Systems

2020
Abstract In this chapter, an effort has been made to give an overview of the aerodynamic loading on structures due to non-synoptic wind events, mainly tornadoes and downbursts. A brief description of the provisions in the building codes and standards for non-synoptic wind loads is presented.

An expert system for synoptic interpretation of lung function tests

Lung, 1990
We simulate the interpretation process by the testing of preformed working hypotheses. A clinical syndrome, "bronchial obstruction," is described by a set of suitable parameters (FEV1, MMEF, Raw, etc.). For a given patient, this set forms a normalized vector.

A real-time synoptic ocean thermal analysis/forecast system

Progress in Oceanography, 1983
Abstract An ocean thermal analysis/forecast system is functioning in real time at the U.S. Navy's Fleet Numerical Oceanography Center (FNOC), Monterey, California. This paper provides a detailed description of the system and presents results illustrating its performance during a four-mouth test and evaluation period.

SYNOPTICS, part V: application of the Synoptics model for the social analysis of the sovereign system

International Journal of Global Environmental Issues, 2020
This part V deals with the introduction to Synoptics as a method and theory of social systems as a psychosocial approach toward societies at large. It elaborates in the following sub-chapters those social systems which have reached the 'highest social rank', i.e., sovereignty. Today they are mostly realised in the form of the nation-state.

A SYNOPTIC STRUCTURE OF THE SYSTEM OF NATIONAL ACCOUNTS

Review of Income and Wealth, 1988
The next UN System of National Accounts (SNA) should have two basic characteristics. First, it has to be a modulary system. Its core is an institutional system without imputations and attributions. Next to that there are several modules. By means of imputations and attributions they transform the core into alternative systems.

Shifts in the synoptic systems influencing southwest Western Australia

Climate Dynamics, 2006
A self-organising map is used to classify the winter circulation affecting southwest Western Australia (SWWA) into 20 different synoptic types. The changes in the frequency of these types and their links to observed rainfall are analysed to further understand the significant, prolonged, rainfall drop observed in this region since 1975.

On the interpretation and motion of synoptic systems

Archives for Meteorology, Geophysics, and Bioclimatology Series A, 1985
A new method is introduced which allows an estimate of the movement of synoptic systems and of the synoptic scale vertical motion in a quite easy manner and without much expense. For this purpose the field of motion is divided into a quasi-stationary drift- or steering field and into the residual field of relative motion, which latter yields a more ...
