A report is given of 22 patients suffering from synovial chondromatosis. Sixteen patients were operated on. The aetiology and diagnostic criteria are discussed with regard to the literature. The X-ray may be characteristic or may alternatively be normal. The symptoms and the physical signs are outlined.
