Flexible control of motor units: is the multidimensionality of motor unit manifolds a sufficient condition?

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 8, Page 2349-2368, 15 April 2025.
Abstract figure legend We recorded large populations of motor units from the vastus lateralis (VL) and gastrocnemius medialis (GM). Using a linear dimensionality reduction approach, we observed that GM motor unit activity was effectively captured by a single latent factor, defining a unidimensional manifold.

From ashes to evidence: A study on the alterations in bloodstain patterns in high heat environments and post‐fire scenes

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, Volume 70, Issue 2, Page 742-750, March 2025.
Abstract Fire is often used to conceal or destroy evidence of violent crimes, making it essential to understand how fire environments affect forensic evidence, particularly bloodstain patterns. This study investigates the impact of high heat environments and fire on the morphology and analysis of bloodstain patterns.

Introducing Auxetic Behavior to Syntactic Foams

open access: yesMetals
This paper proposes an innovative multi-material approach for introducing auxetic behaviour to syntactic foams (SFs). By carefully designing the size, shape, and orientation of the SFs, auxetic deformation behaviour was induced. Re-entrant hexagon-shaped SF elements were fabricated using expanded perlite (EP) particles and a plaster of Paris slurry ...
