Multisituationality and Social Sensibility. Insights From Neophenomenological Sociology

open access: yesJournal for the Theory of Social Behaviour, Volume 56, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Sometimes, we do not act in accordance with what we know. For example, we may purchase products that we know are the result of production chains with questionable ethics. This contribution investigates the paradox between social action and rational knowledge, starting from the ambivalence between emotion and reason.

Characterisation of hybrid metal matrix syntactic foams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
High quality aluminium matrix syntactic foams (AMSFs) were produced by pressure infiltration. This method can ensure the maximal volume fraction of the reinforcing hollow spheres and very low amount of unwanted or matrix porosities. By this method hybrid

Mechanical investigation of in-situ produced aluminium matrix syntactic foam-filled tubes

open access: yes, 2021
This research focuses on the mechanical investigations of in-situ produced AlSi12 aluminium alloy matrix syntactic foam-filled tubes. The samples were manufactured by low-pressure infiltration in a tube made from AlMgSi0.5.

Sustainable metallic syntactic foams containing cork particles

open access: yesMaterials Letters, 2023
Metallic syntactic foams are fabricated through the combination of ZA27 alloy and cork particles. This novel methodology embodies a holistic sustainability paradigm, harnessing a fully recyclable metal matrix alongside naturally proliferating cork. It results in samples with densities from 2007 to 2251 kg/m3 and around 60 % porosity.

X‐Ray Tomography Analysis of Damage Mechanisms in Metal Matrix Syntactic Foams During Compression

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 3, 4 February 2026.
In situ synchrotron X‐ray tomography is used to investigate the internal damage mechanisms of AlSi12 metal matrix syntactic foam with ceramic hollow spheres during compressive loading. It is concluded that a homogeneous distribution of the second‐phase filler material results in a sequential collapse in a localized region; this leads to controlled and ...

A Numerical Simulation of Machining 6061 Syntactic Foams Reinforced with Hollow Al2O3 Shells

open access: yesMetals, 2022
Aluminum closed cell syntactic foams possess reduced density, higher peak compression strength, and lower coefficient of thermal expansion and thermal conductivity compared to metal alloys.

Olfaction Contributes to Pelagic Navigation in a Coastal Shark. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
How animals navigate the constantly moving and visually uniform pelagic realm, often along straight paths between distant sites, is an enduring mystery. The mechanisms enabling pelagic navigation in cartilaginous fishes are particularly understudied.

Ultra-high energy absorption high-entropy alloy syntactic foam

open access: yesComposites Part B: Engineering, 2021
Metal matrix syntactic foams (MMSFs) are a class of fascinating particulate composites consisting of metal matrix and hollow spheres, which are promising in the light-weight structural and energy absorbing applications.

The Geographical Variation of Colour Change in the Arabian Killifish (Aphaniops dispar Sensu Lato) From Freshwater and Marine Ecosystems

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Animals that live in a wide range of environments possess plastic traits such as colour change, but most research has only looked at this within single populations. In this study, we tested four populations of the Arabian killifish from marine and freshwater ecosystems, examining how well they change colour against different backgrounds.

Acoustic emission analyses of the hygrothermal ageing of glass syntactic foams

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2011
In deepwater offshore production, thermal insulation of pipelines and risers is now commonly made with glass syntactic foams. These composite materials offer both good insulation properties and pressure resistance, and also provide buoyancy to the ...
