Open-Cell Metal Foams for Use in Dehumidifying Heat Exchangers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Metal foams with an open-cell structure have physical and mechanical properties suggesting they might have advantages over conventional fin materials for use in air-cooling heat exchangers.

Laser-driven shock experiments to investigate mitigation ability of polymeric foams

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
Polymeric foams are widely used in many industrial fields as thermal insulators, structural materials or shock wave mitigators. Polymeric foams would be valuable candidates to protect structures against intense mechanical stress wave loadings generated ...

Research progress on matrix and mechanical properties of metal matrix composite foam materials

open access: yesFenmo yejin jishu
Metal matrix syntactic foams (MMSFs) are the new type of porous composite materials composed of hollow microsphere and metal matrix. The research progress on aluminum-based, magnesium-based, and steel-based composite foams in recent years was summarized ...

Development and characterization of epoxy syntactic foam filled with epoxy hollow spheres

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2011
The present study focuses on the development and characterization of epoxy syntactic foam filled with epoxy hollow spheres (ESF/EHoS). The epoxy syntactic foam (ESF) was produced by embedding epoxy hollow spheres (EHoS) into a mixture of epoxy-hardener ...

Experimental Measurements Of Air Forced Convection Through Copper Foams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper aims at investigating the air heat transfer and fluid flow through open-cells copper foam samples with different number of pores per unit of length (PPI) with constant porosity (ε=0.93) and foam core height of 40 mm.

High temperature syntactic foam [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Resins from the polyimide, polybenzimidazole polyamide-imide, phenolic, silicone, and urethane families were formulated with glass microbubbles and carbon microspheres to produce low density, high strength syntactic foams. The polyimide and polybenzimidazole foams were the most thermally stable, but even the urethane exceeded the design goals.

Syntactic foams consolidated with starch: mixing behaviour for post-mould processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The mixing required for post-mould gelatinisation of syntactic foams using starch as binder was studied. It was found that starch particles tend to adhere to hollow microspheres during mixing, forming agglomerates.
