Causation at the syntax–semantics interface
2014This chapter is an overview of the themes that arise in the study of causation at the syntax–semantics interface. The chapter presents and discusses recent proposals about the argument structure and the event decomposition of (anti-)causative verbs, and illustrate the deep interconnection between these two layers through several generalizations that ...

Reference to Facts and the Syntax/Semantics Interface
2004It is proposed that the ontology of natural language should be enriched with a new kind of entities, which are identified as facts. It is further shown that reference to facts has important consequences for the syntax of natural language, on the basis of a case-study on ...

The Syntax-Semantics Interface in Grammar
Studies in Hispanic and Lusophone Linguistics, 2011Abstract The points of convergence between syntax and semantics are numerous, highly debated, and now emerging as an important field of research. In this paper we explore the notion of an interface between syntax and semantics and how it has been characterized in linguistic theory. Several possible approaches are considered.

A Multi-use Incremental Syntax-Semantic Interface
2004AsdeCopas is a module designed to interface syntax and semantics. It is based on self-contained, hierarchically organised semantic rules and outputs formulas in a flat language. This paper extends a previous definition of semantic rules and describes two applications of AsdeCopas, namely in question interpretation and in semantic disambiguation.

FrameNet, Frame Structure, and the Syntax-Semantics Interface
2013The Berkeley FrameNet project aims at implementing Fillmore’s Frame Semantics program on a broad empirical basis. The syntactic environments of words in corpora are systematically aligned with the semantic frames evoked by the words. It is Fillmore’s vision that such a collection of valency data can pave the way for an empirically grounded theory of ...

Comparative iIlusions at the syntax-semantics interface
2015Psycholinguistic research has focused much attention on the factors that influence structural ambiguity resolution, under the assumption that meaning is derived from a selected syntactic representation in a systematic, compositional way. Problematically, however, researchers have increasingly observed examples suggesting that perceptions of sentence ...
