Spatial Syntax and the Poetic Spatial Link in Architecture and Planning

open access: yes, 2021
Can Space Syntax uncover the poetic spatial link in architecture and planning? In Lisbon in 2017 we uncover one emergent interest upon the not clear interrelation space syntax configurative structures, the design prefigurative power of architecture and the social science refigurative studies about of the environmental behavior of social human groups or

Spatial Accessibility of Road Network in Wuhan Metropolitan Area Based on Spatial Syntax

open access: yesJournal of Geographic Information System, 2012
Based on space syntax theory, the spatial accessibility of the road network in Wuhan Metropolitan Area has been quantitatively analyzed by building a series of accessibility variables. Topologic connectivity in the accessible rings appears to be broken; traffic axis network is in spatial structure of hub-and-spoke and fishbone-like.

Evaluation of spatial visual perception of streets based on deep learning and spatial syntax

open access: yesScientific Reports
Street visual quality improvement plays an important role in urban development. An important direction for street quality research lies in accurately perceiving the spatial quality of urban streets and exploring the connection with street constituents. This study applies deep learning to extract visual elements from street view images and uses a human ...

On the syntax of spatial adpositions in sign languages

open access: yes, 2012
In investigations of sign language grammar - phonology, morphology, and syntax - the impact of language modality on grammar is a recurrent issue. The term 'modality,' as used in this context, refers to the distinction between languages that are expressed and perceived in the oral-auditive modality (i.e.

The syntactical image of the city:a reciprocal definition of spatial elements and spatial syntaxes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This paper presents a study of the relationship between city elements, as defined by Lynch, and the spatial descriptors commonly used in space syntax research, leadingto a proposed relationship between the hitherto unrelated concepts of intelligibilityand imageability.

The configuration of emerging cities: A review of spatial syntax

open access: yesSCIÉNDO
This review focuses on the phenomenon of spatial syntax from the perspective of urban performance, through its theoretical evolution applied in the scenario of intermediate cities, allowing to understand the role of accessibility and the urban built environment, for the improvement in the provision of services from the instruments of planning and ...
