Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

The Application of Supercritical Fluid Extraction in Phenolic Compounds Isolation from Natural Plant Materials

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
The separation of phenolic compounds by supercritical fluid extraction has been widely studied throughout the last two decades. This is evidenced by a number of publications and articles. Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) has become thus the effective

Digitization of multistep organic synthesis in reactionware for on-demand pharmaceuticals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Chemical manufacturing is often done at large facilities that require a sizable capital investment and then produce key compounds for a finite period. We present an approach to the manufacturing of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals in a self-contained ...

DFT Study on the Mechanism of Iron-Catalyzed Diazocarbonylation

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
The mechanism of the carbonylation of diazomethane in the presence of iron–carbonyl–phosphine catalysts has been investigated by means of DFT calculations at the M06/def-TZVP//B97D3/def2-TZVP level of theory, in combination with the SMD solvation method.

Desaturation of the Sphingofungin Polyketide Tail Results in Increased Serine Palmitoyltransferase Inhibition

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Serine palmitoyltransferase catalyzes the first step of the sphingolipid biosynthesis. Recently, sphingolipid homeostasis has been connected to several human diseases, making serine palmitoyltransferases an interesting therapeutic target.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.
