Kinetics of aggregation of synthetic β-amyloid peptide
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1992beta-Amyloid peptide is the major protein component of senile plaques and cerebrovascular amyloid deposits in patients with Alzheimer's disease. The peptide deposits extracellularly in the form of amyloid fibrils, in a cross-beta conformation. beta-amyloid peptide is a 39- to 43-residue segment of a normal membrane precursor protein.

Aggregate nitrogen in synthetic diamond
Applied Physics Letters, 2003Nitrogen is a commonly observed impurity in natural and synthetic diamond, yet there are still many questions in regard to its incorporation in the material. In all three common forms of diamond: natural, high-pressure high-temperature synthetic, and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond; nitrogen has been observed in substitutional lattice sites ...

Synthetic Aggregate From Incinerator Residues
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1976Residues from the Holmes Road trash and garbage incinerator of the city of Houston, Texas, were ground, mixed with various additives, and heated in a muffle furnace at controlled temperatures and rates of heating. The results indicate that concrete aggregate, either normal or lightweight, can probably be made from this material.

Effect of synthetic enantiomeric cannabinoids on platelet aggregation
Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1992The effect of a synthetic pair of enantiomeric cannabinoids on platelet function was evaluated. The nonpsychotropic enantiomer, the 1,1-dimethylheptyl homolog of (+)-(3S,4S)-7-hydroxy-Δ-6-tetrahydrocannabinol (HU-211), was found to be more active in inhibiting ADP-induced platelet aggregation than the highly psychotropic (−)-enantiomer (HU-210).

Innovative Synthetic Procedures for Luminogens Showing Aggregation‐Induced Emission
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2021AbstractAs a consequence of their intrinsic advantageous properties, luminogens that show aggregation‐induced emission (AIEgens) have received increasing global interest for a wide range of applications. Whereas general synthetic methods towards AIEgens largely rely on tedious procedures and limited reaction types, various innovative synthetic methods ...

Self-Aggregation of a Synthetic Amphiphilic Porphyrin
Australian Journal of Chemistry, 1992The cationic amphiphile meso-tetrakis (1-octyloxycarbonylmethyl-4-pyridinio) porphyrin has been prepared by quaternization of tetra(4-pyridyl) porphyrin . Its self-aggregation into columnar face-to-face stacks is indicated by n.m.r. and electronic absorption spectra in chloroform and chloroform/methanol mixtures.

Elastic Moduli Prediction of Synthetic Lightweight Aggregates
New Frontiers in Geotechnical Engineering, 2014Synthetic lightweight aggregates (SLAs), composed of coal fly ash and recycled plastics, represent a resilient construction material that could be a key aspect to future sustainable development. This research focuses on a prediction of the elastic modulus of SLA, assumed as a homogenous and isotropic composite of particulates of fly ash and a matrix of

Producing synthetic lightweight aggregates from reservoir sediments
Construction and Building Materials, 2012Abstract This paper proposes a procedure to produce lightweight aggregate (LWA) made of fine sediments, which were dredged from the Shihmen Reservoir in the northern Taiwan. The synthetic aggregates were manufactured in a newly developed rotary kiln. Physical and mechanical properties of the synthesized aggregates were subsequently assessed.

Aggregation of Synthetic Zinc Complexes of Cyclotetrapyrroles
Chemistry Letters, 1996Abstract Zinc complexes of cyclotetrapyrroles possessing 31-hydroxyl and 131-keto carbonyl groups were prepared. The electronic and circular dichroism absorption spectra showed that these compounds self-aggregated in less polar organic solvents to form oligomers, which are good models for natural aggregates of bacteriochlorophyll-d in ...

Preparation of Synthetic Quartz Aggregates under Pressure
MRS Proceedings, 1991ABSTRACTIn 1965 Griggs and Blacic [1,2] proposed that there is a “hydrolytic weakening” process in quartz and silicates whereby the breaking of Si-O bonds, involved in the movement of dislocations, is facilitated by the presence of water. This proposal aimed to explain the observed dramatic weakening of quartz crystals when they are exposed to water in
