Coherent Absorption Reveals Colors Hidden in a Grey Fabry–Pérot Cavity

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A dielectric thin film shows colors depending on its thickness; this effect can be used to encode information normally accessible through single‐beam spectroscopy. We developed a method to conceal this kind of information, based on coating the dielectric with a matched conductor, that suppresses the color‐bearing thin‐film resonances.

Gonadotropin‐Inhibitory Hormone (GnIH) and Its Receptor GPR147 Mediates Acute Stress‐Induced Activation of the Locus Coeruleus‐SAM Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gonadotropin‐inhibitory hormone (GnIH, also known as RFamide‐related peptide‐3, RFRP‐3) is a hypothalamic neuropeptide that regulates vertebrate reproduction via its receptor GPR147. Although GnIH is known to mediate stress‐induced reproductive suppression, its role in broader stress responses remains unclear.

Integration of optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images to differentiate grassland and alfalfa in Prairie area

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation, 2014
Abstract Alfalfa presents a huge potential biofuel source in the Prairie Provinces of Canada. However, it remains a challenge to find an ideal single satellite sensor to monitor the regional spatial distribution of alfalfa on an annual basis.

Ultra Wide Swath Imaging With Multi-Channel SAR Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Multi-channel radar systems allow for overcoming the inherent limitation of conventional synthetic aperture radar (SAR). An example is the combination of digital beamforming on receive in elevation with multi-aperture SAR signal reconstruction in azimuth

In Situ Stress‐Dispersing Hydrogel Millispheres via Load Redistribution to Restore Nucleus Pulposus Metabolic Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Local stress concentration disrupts metabolic homeostasis and induces inflammation in the nucleus pulposus (NP), thereby accelerating intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). A biomimetic HA/ChS hydrogel millimeter sphere (ChS@HM) is developed to enable synergistic stress dispersion and sustained hydration lubrication.

Performance Analysis and System Design in GEO-LEO Bistatic SAR

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
The geosynchronous-low-Earth-orbit bistatic synthetic aperture radar (GEO-LEO BiSAR) adopts the transceiver split system form, in which GEO SAR serves as the illuminator and LEO SAR serves as the receiver.

The Staggered SAR concept: Imaging a wide continuous swath with high resolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Staggered SAR is an innovative synthetic aperture radar (SAR) concept, based on the continuous variation of the pulse repetition interval (PRI). This concept allows high-resolution imaging of a wide continuous swath without the need for a long antenna ...

A Global Methane Observation System to Reduce Uncertainty for Anthropogenic and Natural Sources and Sinks for Detecting and Attributing Climate Feedbacks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conceptual illustration of a Global Ecosystem Methane Observing System (GEM‐OS) integrating satellites, aircraft, atmospheric networks, and ecosystem measurements to quantify methane emissions from anthropogenic and natural sources. The multi‐scale observing framework improves source attribution, reduces uncertainty in regional methane budgets, and ...

SAR Image Simulation for Crater Terrain Using Formation Theory-Based Modeling and Hybrid Ray-Tracing

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Simulating synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images of crater terrain is a crucial technique for expanding SAR sample databases and facilitating the development of quantitative information extraction models for craters.

Integration of speckle de-noising and image segmentation using Synthetic Aperture Radar image for flood extent extraction

open access: yesJournal of Earth System Science, 2013
Flood is one of the detrimental hydro-meteorological threats to mankind. This compels very efficient flood assessment models. In this paper, we propose remote sensing based flood assessment using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image because of its imperviousness to unfavourable weather conditions. However, they suffer from the speckle noise. Hence, the
