The Mer de Glace and Argentiegravere glaciers are located in the Mont Blanc region, French Alps. They are temperate glaciers and their velocity flow is about one hundred meters a year (~270 mm a day). This paper presents a use of synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) interferogram obtained from the two European Remote-Sensing satellites (ERS1-2) to measure ...

Mexico City has suffered for many years from the phenomenon of land subsidence because the city is located within the limits of the old Lake Texcoco. The lithological materials that constitute the lake area are deposits, mainly clayey, of low consolidation, that compose the upper aquitard of the city, from which volumes of water have been extracted ...

Using data of two GPS campaigns as well as two ERS-1/2 Single Look Complex (SLC) datasets, we studied the distribution of co-seismic and post-earthquake surface deformation of the major (moment magnitude Mw=8.1) Antofagasta (Chile) event of 30 July 1995. Earthquake-related fault dimensions and inter-seismic surface deformation patterns were achieved by

Abstract In Kolkata City, India potential land subsidence, due to over-drafting of groundwater under confined condition, has been reported by a number of previous workers and by the local media. The presence of a thick surface clay layer with an average thickness of more than 40 m over the aquifer sand layer raises questions on the possibility and ...

This paper presents deformation analysis of Lake Urmia causeway (LUC) embankments in northwest Iran using observations from interferometry synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) and finite element model (FEM) simulation. 58 SAR images including 10 ALOS, 30 Envisat and 18 TerraSAR-X are used to assess settlement of the embankments during 2003–2013.

Mining activity is essential for providing the raw materials necessary for societal development. The life of an underground mine depends on multiple factors, such as geological characteristics (e.g., mineral quantity and quality), economic drivers (costs, market prices, technology), technical constraints (e.g., extractive efficiency), and environmental/
