Jet vectoring using synthetic jets
The interaction between a conventional rectangular (primary) air jet and a co-flowing synthetic jet is investigated experimentally. The nozzles of both jets have the same long dimension but the aspect ratio of the synthetic jet orifice is 25 times larger.

Visualization of synthetic jet formation in air
This experimental study deals with a round synthetic jet (SJ) issuing into quiescent surroundings. Flow visualization in air is used to identify different flow field regimes. Hot-wire anemometry and theoretical evaluations are used to quantify parameters in terms of the Reynolds (Re) and Stokes (S) numbers.

Separation control on NACA23012 using synthetic jet
A numerical study of separation control has been made to investigate aerodynamic characteristics of NACA23012 airfoil with synthetic jets. Computed results demonstrated that stall characteristics and control surface performance could be substantially ...

Jet Vectoring Control Using a Novel Synthetic Jet Actuator
A primary air jet vectoring control system with a novel synthetic jet actuator (SJA) is presented and simulated numerically. The results show that, in comparison with an existing traditional synthetic jet actuator, which is able to perform the duty of ...

Pulsating and synthetic impinging jets
Journal of Visualization, 2005This is the second part of a survey summarizing authors' research over a period of two decades on enhancing impinging jet heat and/or mass transfer by periodic unsteadiness of nozzle flow rate. The first part, Tesar and Travnicek (2004 b), identified the reasons why pulsation does not always improve the transfer rate: the pulses do not reach up to the ...

On the Modelling of a Synthetic Jet as a Spherical Jet
Volume 1: Symposia, Parts A and B, 2007The properties of a flow field of a synthetic jet are studied using hot wire anemometry. The experimental results are compared with an analytical model of a continuous jet derived in spherical coordinates. The radial velocity profiles at various radial distances from the synthetic jet orifice, when scaled appropriately collapse into a single self ...

Numerical investigation of synthetic jet flowfields
29th AIAA, Fluid Dynamics Conference, 1998The flowflelds surrounding a synthetic-jet actuating device are investigated numerically by direct simulation. Solutions are obtained to the unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equations for both the interior of the actuator cavity and for the external jet flowfield.
