A Study on Synthetic Jet Actuator Diaphragm

Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Systems, 2015
A synthetic jet actuator (SJA) is one of the most widely used active flow control device which uses a vibrating diaphragm enclosed within a cavity to generate the fluid jet. The effectiveness of the actuator greatly depends upon the design of cavity and orifice and the diaphragm properties.

Microfabricated Electrodynamic Synthetic Jet Actuators

Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems, 2018
This paper presents the design, fabrication, and characterization of a chip-scale electrodynamic synthetic jet actuator with batch-fabricated die components. The actuator is an assembly of two dies with a plastic spacer sandwiched in between. The top die consists of a copper micro-coil and an orifice through which the jet is synthesized. The bottom die

New Generation of Synthetic Jet Actuators

AIAA Journal, 2006
I N the last 20 years, much attention has been given to developing microfluidic systems [1]. Among them, synthetic-jet actuators (SJA) have been intensely studied recently [2]. Synthetic-jet actuators have many potential applications such as jet vectoring [3,4], boundary-layer control [5,6], combustion control [7], and micro-pumps [8], etc. A synthetic-

Modelling of efficiency of synthetic jet actuators

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2015
Abstract A comprehensive and detailed modelling to evaluate the efficiency of energy conversion of piezo-electric actuators driving synthetic jets is developed. The contribution is original because the analysis is based on the energy equations of the two coupled oscillators, the membrane and the acoustic one, which are directly derived from the ...

THE MECHANISM OF JET VECTORING USING SYNTHETIC JET ACTUATORS

Modern Physics Letters B, 2005
The control mechanism of jet vectoring using synthetic jet actuators is investigated. The final deflection angle of the primary jet is a result of the primary jet controlled by synthetic jets at three different regions. The lower static pressure near the primary jet exit induced by the synthetic jet, the entrainment and absorption of the primary jet ...

Numerical simulation of synthetic jet actuators

4th Shear Flow Control Conference, 1997
A promising design of fluid actuators for flow control is investigated. Two-dimensional, incompressible simulations of synthetic jet actuators are performed. A modeled boundary condition is developed for the actuator. Three different velocity distributions along the orifice are examined and all three distributions give qualitatively similar flow ...

Impinging jet-based fluidic diodes for hybrid synthetic jet actuators

Journal of Visualization, 2014
A new variant of a fluidic diode for hybrid synthetic jet actuators (HSJAs) is introduced in this paper, namely the diode in the form of a conical duct. The periodic jet flow from the diode impinges on the wall and the resulting flow differences during blowing and suction increase the volumetric efficiency of the actuator.

Design and fabrication of a Piezoelectric Micro Synthetic Jet Actuator

2011 6th IEEE International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems, 2011
Synthetic Jet Actuator (SJA) is a new type actuator for active flow control applications. A Piezoelectric Micro SJA based on MEMS technology was present in this work. The simulation of device performance was carried out through a multi-domain coupled analysis model, and the relative error of jet velocity between simulation results and experiment data ...

On the Use of Synthetic Jet Actuators to Induce Jet-Vectoring in Nozzles

2018 AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 2018
The application of Synthetic Jet (SJ) flow manipulators to the thrust vectoring of supersonic nozzles is investigated numerically. The thrust vectoring is obtained here by SJ induced flow separations, which generate the required asymmetry of the nozzle wall pressure distribution.
