The thermal stability and read-write performance of longitudinal magnetic recording media with antiferromagnetically coupled layers are investigated. The thermal stability is strongly dependent on the interaction between layers and the anisotropy energy of the stabilizing layer or layers.

Media representations of synthetic biology in China
Trends in Biotechnology, 2023Media representations of emerging biotechnologies in the media can influence public attitudes and have the potential to impact on policy decisions and law-making. We discuss the unbalanced portrayal of synthetic biology in Chinese news media and how it might affect the perceptions of the public, the scientific community, and decision-makers.

Synthetic Social Media Data Generation
IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems, 2018This paper presents a novel system, synthetic high-fidelity social media data generator (SHIELD), for generating the synthetic social media data. SHIELD jointly generates time-varying, directed and weighted interaction graph structures and topic-driven text features similar to the input social media data. A synthetic interaction graph is generated by a

Synthetic seismograms in attenuating media
GEOPHYSICS, 1983Synthetic seismograms are computed in a two‐dimensional medium that contains contrasts both in the elastic and in the attenuation (Q) properties with depth. The case of a liquid‐solid interface, with and without a Q contrast between the two media, is examined in detail.

Advanced synthetic ferrimagnetic media (invited)
Journal of Applied Physics, 2002The exchange coupling field (Hex) in two-layer synthetic ferrimagnetic media (SFM) is enhanced to extend the areal density capability of earlier structures. The thermal stability of SFM is improved by employing high magnetic anisotropy stabilizing layers without significantly affecting the required write fields.

Extracts of molds grown on synthetic media
Journal of Allergy, 1949Abstract 1.1. A method is described for preparing mold extracts which eliminates the use of peptone in media. 2.2. Mold extracts thus prepared are more potent than the former extract of the same protein nitrogen unit value. 3.3. These mold extracts prepared by the synthetic media were apparently not irritating. 4.4.

Synthetic filter media: Balancing energy efficiency and electrostatics in new synthetic filter media
Filtration & Separation, 2011Pushing back the influence of electrostatics on filter media while operating in an energy efficient manner is a major goal in air filtration. Dr. Andreas Seeberger of IREMA FILTER GmbH describes some recent developments.

Penicillin-induced spheroplast formation in synthetic media
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1962Abstract The induction of spheroplasts of Escherichia coli by treatment of the organism with penicillin in a simple, chemically defined medium is described, and is shown to depend on the available concentration of Mg 2+ ions, on the temperature of incubation, and on the stage of growth of the bacterial cells when penicillin is added.
