Natural Selection in Synthetic Communities Highlights the Roles of Methylococcaceae and Methylophilaceae and Suggests Differential Roles for Alternative Methanol Dehydrogenases in Methane Consumption

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
We describe experiments that follow species dynamics and gene expression patterns in synthetic bacterial communities including species that compete for the single carbon substrate supplied, methane, and species unable to consume methane, which could only

Methane oxidation and emission in Lake Lugano (Southern Switzerland) : a lipid biomarker and isotopic approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Methane is an important greenhouse gas in Earth's atmosphere. The sources of atmospheric methane are largely biogenic, being produced under anoxic conditions by methanogenic Archaea.

RELIABILITY OF WATER CONTENT DATA FOR NATURAL GAS-HYDRATE SYSTEMS USING SEMI-EMPIRICAL CORRELATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Petroleum & Gas Technology, 2023
Water in natural gas can result in various operational problems, which may lead to equipment failure and plant shutdown. Knowing the amount of water capable of condensing from natural gas is essential.

Upscaling methane emissions from rice paddies: problems and possibilities. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Global methane emission estimates depend highly on the models, techniques, and databases used. Since emissions cannot be measured directly at large scales, it is impossible to judge which estimate is more realistic.

Impact of transport model errors on the global and regional methane emissions estimated by inverse modelling [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2013
A modelling experiment has been conceived to assess the impact of transport model errors on methane emissions estimated in an atmospheric inversion system.

Deactivation of a steam reformer catalyst in chemical looping hydrogen systems: experiments and modeling

open access: yesJPhys Energy, 2023
The utilization of real producer gases such as raw biogas or gasified wood for chemical looping hydrogen production implies the introduction of harmful contaminants into the process.

Electricity from methane by reversing methanogenesis

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Microbial fuel cells generate electricity from a variety of sources, however from methane only negligible electrical power has been reported so far.

Biotechnological aspects of sulfate reduction with methane as electron donor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Biological sulfate reduction can be used for the removal and recovery of oxidized sulfur compounds and metals from waste streams. However, the costs of conventional electron donors, like hydrogen and ethanol, limit the application possibilities.

Remote Renewable Hubs for Carbon-Neutral Synthetic Fuel Production

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2021
This paper studies the economics of carbon-neutral synthetic fuel production from renewable electricity in remote areas where high-quality renewable resources are abundant.

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.
