Production and characterization of activated carbons made from sunflower stems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Activated carbons (ACs) are artificial materials, prepared from natural or synthetic precursors that are worldwide extensively used. The ACs main characteristics are the noticeable adsorption capabilities provided by the highly developed porous structure

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...

Total Site Heat Integration of the Coal-Based Synthetic Natural Gas Process

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2017
China is now boosting coal-based synthetic natural gas (SNG) process for clean energy supply. However, recent studies show that the plantwide energy efficiency is at a low level.

Efficient Detection of Underwater Natural Gas Pipeline Leak Based on Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) Systems

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
Natural gas is an important source of energy. Underwater gas pipeline leaks, on the other hand, have a serious impact on the marine environment; hence, the need for a reliable and preferably automated inspection method is essential.

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Investigation of cryogenic technique for synthetic natural gas upgrading [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2015
Abstract Bio-LNG which is produced by liquefaction of synthetic natural gas from biomass (bio-SNG) is a valuable renewable fuel as it has high energy density and transportability. Cryogenic technology is a promising option for integration of the gas upgrading and liquefaction systems with the main biomass gasification and methane synthesis plant ...
