Financial barriers, facilitators, and strategies among syringe services programs in the U.S., and their impact on implementation and health outcomes

open access: yesSSM: Qualitative Research in Health
Syringe Services Programs (SSPs) provide evidence-based services like drug use equipment to prevent infectious disease, overdose prevention education, and naloxone distribution to people who use drugs (PWUD).

Charge Transport in Ternary Charge‐Transfer Solid Solution Single Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study deconvolutes the roles of indirect (superexchange) and direct electronic coupling on charge transport in single crystals of an organic charge‐transfer molecular semiconductor (OSC). This model system elegantly demonstrates that structural defects introduced by chemical dopants play a significant role in the electronic performance ...

Whole-mount in situ hybridization of small invertebrate embryos using laboratory mini-columns

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2007
To facilitate the handling of small invertebrate embryos during whole-mount in situ hybridization, a method of solution exchange using laboratory mini-columns was developed. This protocol speeds time-consuming aspiration of buffers, and avoids accidental

Community acceptance and implementation of HIV prevention interventions for injection drug users [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In 1997, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) reviewed evidence of the effectiveness of HIV prevention programs for injection drug users (IDUs) and recommended that three types ofinterventions be implemented to prevent transmission of HIV among IDUs ...

Coupled anoxic nitrification/manganese reduction in marine sediments [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Pore water and solid phase distributions of oxygen, manganese, and nitrogen from hemipelagic and shelf sediments sometimes indicate a close coupling between the manganese and nitrogen redox cycles.

Infrared Nanocrystals for Space Application: Hardness to Irradiations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates infrared HgTe nanocrystals under X‐ray and ion irradiation, revealing remarkable radiation hardness. It uncovers distinct degradation mechanisms and shows that the nanomaterial outperforms integrated electronics. The results position colloidal nanocrystals as promising candidates for resilient space and harsh‐environment ...

Injection and sexual risk among people who use or inject drugs in Kampala, Uganda: An exploratory qualitative study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
BackgroundCountries in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) have seen rapid increases in injection drug use since 2008. In Uganda, the Global Sate of Harm report and studies conducted by Makerere University Crane Surveys have estimated HIV prevalence among people ...

All‐Aqueous Pullulan Fibers Enabling Visible‐to‐Near‐Infrared Waveguiding with Mechanical and Thermal Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.

A Cost Analysis of Hospitalizations for Infections Related to Injection Drug Use at a County Safety-Net Hospital in Miami, Florida.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
BackgroundInfections related to injection drug use are common. Harm reduction strategies such as syringe exchange programs and skin care clinics aim to prevent these infections in injection drug users (IDUs).
