1. In this analysis of forty-three patients with syringomyelia, twenty-seven (63 per cent) had scoliosis. This association is probably due to the early involvement of the ventro-medial and dorso-medial nuclei of the spinal cord by expanding lesions. 2. The literature makes no reference to the treatment of scoliosis associated with syringomyelia.

The HLA status of 53 patients with syringomyelia was assessed. Forty had an associated Chiari anomaly. A significant increase of HLA-A9 was found. Genetic factors may influence the development of syringomyelia.

✓ A detailed study of posttraumatic syringomyelia is reported. The interior of the syrinx was outlined by positive contrast and gas myelography. The contrast material entered the syrinx via a communication between the cavity and the subarachnoid space at the site of spinal cord injury. The syrinx also communicated with the fourth ventricle.

AT THE turn of the century it was well recognized that cavitation in the spinal cord occurs in association with a variety of causative agents. Schlesinger, 1 in his monograph, cited cavities occurring as a result of traumatic hematomyelia; softenings of inflammatory and noninflammatory origin, and cavities resulting from malformations, tumors, gliosis,

SUMMARY Syringomyelia was present in 3 of 6 pigs examined in an outbreak of disease in which a respiratory and an ataxic syndrome were recognized. Lesions were found in cervical spinal cord segments in pigs 3 to 5 months old. The aetiology was not determined.

Syringomyelia in a man with sarcoidosis
Neurosurgery, 1986Abstract Sarcoidosis, generally a systemic ailment, uncommonly affects the central nervous system. It only rarely affects the spinal cord alone or in combination with other areas. Syringomyelia has never been associated with sarcoidosis.
