Morphometric Features of Posterior Cranial Fossa are Different between Chiari I Malformation with and without Syringomyelia

open access: yesGlobal Spine Journal, 2015
Introduction To investigate whether the posterior cranial fossa (PCF) morphology in Chiari I malformation without syringomyelia (CMI only) is different from that in Chiari I malformation with syringomyelia (CMI-S).

Tough, Ductile, and Strong Hard‐Soft Cementitious Composite Enabled by Multi‐Material Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Drawing inspiration from the layered hard‐soft architecture found in sea sponges, this work establishes a new framework for architected cementitious composites (ACC) through multi‐material additive manufacturing (MMAM) process. The integration of mortar and elastomer phases into layered architectures enables synergistic toughening mechanisms, including

In(-)formations. The Meaning of Paratextual Elements in Debussy's Syrinx

open access: yesMuzikološki Zbornik, 2005
According to Gérard Genette, paratextual elements can be defined as that what comes against, beside, and in addition to the text (a score for example) 'itself'. In that sense, they are always subordinate to 'their' text.

Phase‐Pure and Size‐Tunable Tin Halide Perovskite Quantum Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A trioctylphosphine oxide modulated protocol allows for the synthesis and study of the optical properties of a broad library of tin halide perovskite quantum dots across multiple A‐ and X‐site compositions with precise size tuning while eliminating unwanted 2D phases.

Engineering Strain‐Stiffening Granular Hydrogels for 3D‐Printed Tissue‐Mimicry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printable strain‐stiffening double‐network granular hydrogel (SDGH) enables independent, region‐specific tuning of toe (EToe) and heel (EHeel) moduli through control of microgel packing and network composition. This platform replicates tissue‐like nonlinear mechanics and allows fabrication of high‐fidelity, multilayered aortic valves with ...

Development of pre-syrinx state and syringomyelia following a minor injury: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2020
Background A generally accepted rule is that posttraumatic syringomyelia (PTS) results from spinal cord injury (SCI). Case presentation Here, we report the development of syringomyelia without SCI in a 54-year-old Caucasian man following a mild motor ...

Femtosecond‐Laser Mould Texturing Enables Tunable Biointerfaces in COC Microfluidics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Femtosecond‐laser texturing of injection‐mould inserts enables scalable engineering of biointerfaces in cyclic olefin copolymer microfluidics. Replicated micro‐ and nano‐topographies modulate surface roughness and wettability, leading to texture‐dependent protein adsorption and cell adhesion without chemical post‐processing.

Clinical predictors of syringomyelia in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels with chiari-like malformation based on owners’ observations

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica
Background Syringomyelia (SM) is a prevalent inherited developmental condition in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (CKCSs) with Chiari-like malformation (CM), accompanied by a variety of clinical manifestations, including signs of neuropathic pain ...

An Effective Surgical Method for Terminal Syringomyelia: Terminal Ventriculostomy-Associated “V”-Type Ostomy

open access: yesGlobal Spine Journal, 2023
Study Design: Retrospective cohort study. Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of terminal ventriculostomy in treating tethered cord syndrome (TCS) combined with terminal syringomyelia (TS) and describe “V”-type ostomy as an effective ...

Minimally Invasive Delivery of Optical Nanosensors Using Injectable Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Injectable peptide hydrogels offer a minimally invasive delivery platform for single‐walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT)‐based near‐infrared fluorescent sensors, enabling real‐time measurement of drug concentrations. Encapsulated SWCNTs show a dose‐dependent fluorescence response across physiologically relevant concentrations and retain their fluorescence ...
