Enhanced Carrier Selectivity and Superior Passivation in Cost‐Effective Heterogeneous Hybrid Transport Layers for Next Generation Silicon Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 8, February 19, 2025.
Discover how innovative heterogeneous hybrid hole transport layers (He‐HHTLs) using low‐cost, dopant‐free poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulphonate (PEDOT:PSS) and heterogeneous tunnel oxides (HeTOs) like SiOx/TiOx and SiOx/AlOx are revolutionizing silicon solar cells.

Effect of Chlorine Inclusion in Wide Band Gap FAPbBr3 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 12, Issue 36, December 20, 2024.
Chlorine inclusion in wide‐band gap FAPbBr₃ perovskite influences non‐radiative losses, carrier recombination rates, and lattice parameters. A 14% chlorine content in FAPb(Br1‐xClx)3 thin films provides the optimal balance between morphology, transparency, and voltage losses, establishing it as a promising candidate for building‐integrated ...

Impact of agricultural atmospheric pollutants on the opto‐electrical performance of CIGS solar cells

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, Volume 32, Issue 11, Page 814-826, November 2024.
The effect of agricultural pollutant (NH4)2SO4 on the temperature and humidity stability of CIGS solar cells was investigated. (NH4)2SO4 strongly deteriorated performance, especially Jsc and FF. With (NH4)2SO4, degradation was caused by contact resistivity increase and optical loss in the TCO, while without pollutant, degradation was ascribed to shunt ...

Rapid and Noise‐Resilient Mapping of Photogenerated Carrier Lifetime in Halide Perovskite Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 34, Issue 37, September 11, 2024.
This work introduces a method for extracting high‐quality lifetime maps from rapidly acquired and noisy time‐resolved photoluminescence images through the application of total variation regularization techniques. Furthermore, this approach offers novel perspectives for accelerated experiments critical in characterizing the degradation processes of ...

Guided Search to Self‐Healing in Semiconductors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 34, Issue 11, March 11, 2024.
A data‐mining approach is used to find self‐healing materials for photovoltaic applications. Target ranges of material property combinations are found for candidate materials that can self‐heal from damage. Cs2AuIAuIIICl6 and Cs2AuIAuIIIBr6 are successfully synthesized and tested to support the general finding.

Unveiling the Electronic Band Structure and Temporal Dynamics of Excited Carriers in Formamidinium Lead Bromide Perovskite

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 12, Issue 9, March 22, 2024.
With the use of a synergic and multiscale approach that brings together experiments and theory, a detailed insight into the electronic structure of FAPbBr3 along with the description of the ultrafast dynamics of photoexcited carriers is provided. The multiscale methodology allows the exploration of novel strategies for the design of perovskite‐based ...

Synergistic effect between molybdenum back contact and CIGS absorber in the degradation of solar cells

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, Volume 32, Issue 3, Page 137-155, March 2024.
We study the effect of atmospheric aerosol pollutants on the degradation mode of layers and interfaces representative for CIGS solar cells under temperature and humidity cycling. ALD‐Al2O3 encapsulation successfully protected Mo and CIGS exposed to the temperature and humidity variation but failed to protect the samples in the presence of pollutants ...

Tuning the Optical and Structural Properties of Halide Perovskite by PbS Quantum Dot Additive Engineering for Enhanced Photovoltaic Performances

open access: yesSolar RRL, Volume 8, Issue 5, March 2024.
The study has demonstrated the impact of shell on the PbS quantum dot and subsequent structural and optoelectronic properties of FAPbI3 and MAPbI3 perovskite. It has been highlighted how the FAPbI3 shell is needed to obtain the favourable energy alignment and high efficiency solar cells.

Insectivorous bats alter their flight and feeding behaviour at ground‐mounted solar farms

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 2, Page 328-339, February 2024.
The negative effects of solar farms on bat flight and feeding behaviour should be considered when solar energy projects are planned. Research is needed to understand the mechanisms underlying the effects; for example, shading underneath solar panels may reduce plant biomass and therefore insect prey availability.
