Maintenance optimization for marine mechanical systems

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part M: Journal of Engineering for the Maritime Environment, 2019
This article proposes a stochastic technique for determining the optimal maintenance policy for marine mechanical systems. The optimal maintenance policy output includes the average maintenance cost rate, maintenance interval and the performance thresholds for the three marine mechanical system classifications.

OPTIMAL MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF A SYSTEM WITH BACKUP COMPONENTS

Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences, 2002
We consider a system with heterogeneous unreliable components that requires only one component to be turned on in order for it to operate. Repair workers may have different skills and may be unavailable for random periods of time. The problem is to determine a usage and repair policy to maximize system availability.

Maintenance optimization in failure-prone systems under imperfect preventive maintenance

Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, 2018
In the majority of the existing preventive optimization models only costs related to maintenance actions are accounted for, while breakdown and operational costs are usually ignored. Liao et al. (J Intell Manuf 21(6):875–884, 2010) proposed a preventive maintenance model to deal with this shortcoming.

Optimal Control of a Maintenance System with Variable Service Rates

Operations Research, 1974
This paper examines a production system with variable repair-service rates. Considering costs dependent on the service rates and costs due to lost production, it seeks to minimize the long-run expected average cost of the system. The model is a continuous-time Markovian decision problem.

Optimal Maintenance Time for Repairable Systems

Journal of Quality Technology, 2007
The maintenance strategy of a repairable system calls for preventative repair actions at regularly scheduled times and minimal repair actions whenever failure occurs. When failures do occur, they are modeled on a nonhomogeneous Poisson process called th..

Optimal maintenance of stochastically deteriorating systems

International Journal of Systems Science, 1991
A machine maintenance problem were the deterioration of the machine is subject to additive random noise is considered. The objective is then to maximize the discounted net return of the machine. Furthermore, it is also required that the machine maintains a sufficiently good quality state with certain degrees of confidence in part or whole of the ...

Optimal maintenance models for systems subject to failure–A Review

Naval Research Logistics Quarterly, 1981
AbstractThis paper is a state‐of‐the‐art review of the literature related to optimal maintenance models of systems subject to failure. The emphasis is on work appearing since the 1976 survey, “A Survey of Maintenance Models: The Control and Surveillance of Deteriorating Systems,” by W.P. Pierskalla and J.A. Voelker, published in this journal.

A Computer Algorithm for Optimal Maintenance of Standby Redundant Systems

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1981
A class of standby redundant systems with exponential failure-time and repair-time distributions is considered. There are several alternatives available in each state (up or down) to maintain the system. A computer algorithm is developed to obtain the maintenance policy that maximises s-expected profit of a standby redundant system.

The Optimality of Preventive Maintenance in a Complex System

1977
For a complex system with one renewal and one readjustment subsystem conditions for the existence of an age-dependent preventive replacement and readjustment policy are given for increasing failure rate as well as for constant failure rate. This policy optimizes either the arising costs or profits per unit time or the system’s efficiency over an ...
