Evaluation Applied to Reliability Analysis of Reconfigurable, Highly Reliable, Fault-Tolerant, Computing Systems for Avionics [PDF]

open access: yes
Emulation techniques are proposed as a solution to a difficulty arising in the analysis of the reliability of highly reliable computer systems for future commercial aircraft.

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Reliability studies of integrated modular engine system designs [PDF]

open access: yes
A study was performed to evaluate the reliability of Integrated Modular Engine (IME) concepts. Comparisons were made between networked IME systems and non-networked discrete systems using expander cycle configurations.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

On the stress- and strain-based fatigue behavior of welded thick-walled nodular cast iron

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity
Nodular cast iron (GJS) represents one of the most widely used materials for vehicle, energy and heavy machinery industry. Nevertheless, foundries struggling with the influence of local material defects in GJS like pores, shrinkages and dross often ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...
