Pitfalls in supermatrix phylogenomics

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy, 2017
In the mid-2000s, molecular phylogenetics turned into phylogenomics, a development that improved the resolution of phylogenetic trees through a dramatic reduction in stochastic error.

Objective and intentional errors on modern geographical maps of Serbia and surroundings [PDF]

open access: yesZbornik Radova: Geografski institut "Jovan Cvijić", 2009
The paper analyses the occurrence and the major causes of objective, as well as intentional errors that can be perceived in maps of Serbia and its surroundings over a period of more than one hundred years, when this branch of cartography has manifested ...

Does the GPM mission improve the systematic error component in satellite rainfall estimates over TRMM? An evaluation at a pan-India scale

open access: yes, 2016
. The last couple of decades have seen the outburst of a number of satellite-based precipitation products with Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) as the most widely used for hydrologic applications.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Error Decomposition of Remote Sensing Soil Moisture Products Based on the Triple-Collocation Method Introducing an Unbiased Reference Dataset: A Case Study on the Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Remote sensing (RS) soil moisture (SM) products have been widely used in various environmental studies. Understanding the error structure of data is necessary to properly apply RS SM products in trend and variation analysis and data fusion.

A Self-Calibration SOC Estimation Method for Lithium-Ion Battery

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Accurate state of charge (SOC) estimation is essential for the battery management system (BMS). In engineering, inappropriate selection of equivalent circuit model (ECM) and model parameters is common for lithium-ion batteries.

Systematic evaluation of error rates and causes in short samples in next-generation sequencing

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is the method of choice when large numbers of sequences have to be obtained. While the technique is widely applied, varying error rates have been observed.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Serial Dependence in Dermatological Judgments

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2023
Serial Dependence is a ubiquitous visual phenomenon in which sequentially viewed images appear more similar than they actually are, thus facilitating an efficient and stable perceptual experience in human observers. Although serial dependence is adaptive

Background sky obscuration by cluster galaxies as a source of systematic error for weak lensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Lensing magnification and stacked shear measurements of galaxy clusters rely on measuring the density of background galaxies behind the clusters. The most common ways of measuring this quantity ignore the fact that some fraction of the sky is obscured by
