On the Security of the UMTS System
2001This contribution presents an overview of the security of the 3rd generation mobile radio system UMTS as currently standardised by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project 3GPP. We discuss the underlying principles and show to which extent the security of 2nd generation systems as GSM is improved and enhanced by UMTS.

Workflow technology is often employed by organizations to automate their day-to-day business processes. The primary advantage of adopting workflow technology is to separate the business policy from the business applications so that flexibility and maintainability of business process reengineering can be enhanced.

Abstract Security metrics have evolved side by side with the advent of security tools and techniques. They have been derived from the techniques rather than specified as system requirements. This paper surveys the evolution and state of the practice of security metrics from both a technical and historical perspective. It describes the

Components of previous security systems were designed independently from one another and were often difficult to integrate. Described is the recently available IBM Transaction Security System. It implements the Common Cryptographic Architecture and offers a comprehensive set of security products that allow users to implement end-to-end secure systems ...

Fault-tolerant computer systems are being used increasingly in such applications as e-commerce, banking, and stock trading, where privacy and integrity of data are as important as the uninterrupted operation of the service provided. While much attention has been paid to the protection of data explicitly communicated over the Internet, there are also ...

Composability properties of component systems are addressed. By means of analysis of external relations among components, security problems associated with composition of the components are investigated. To solve these problems, two security models are presented.

The design and implementation aspects of network security facilities for interconnecting Unix-based secure systems such as Secure Xenix, and CMW, using the TCP/IP protocols for communication, are described. Session-based and non-session-based security facilities are proposed for achieving secure connectivity between secure systems.

Pretending that Systems Are Secure
IEEE Security and Privacy Magazine, 2005To a large extent, computing systems are useful only to the degree in which they're embedded in the processes that constitute human society. This embedding makes effective system security extremely important, but achieving it requires a strong look at the human side of the picture - the computers themselves are only part of the system.
