Thriving Systems Theory: An Emergent Information Systems Design Theory

2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2013
Thriving Systems Theory is an emergent design quality framework encompassing both traditional objective metrics and the subjective, aesthetics. It draws theories of design quality in physical architecture originated by Christopher Alexander, the patriarch of design patterns, into the domain of models and information systems.

System Justification Theory

2012
System justification is a social psychology term of art that designates any motivational tendency to defend, bolster, or rationalize existing social, economic, and political arrangements. It is conceptualized as a response tendency possessed by many, or perhaps most, members of society to see aspects of the overarching social system as good, fair, and ...

Realization Theory of Nash Systems

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, 2009
This paper deals with realization theory of so-called Nash systems, i.e., nonlinear systems the right-hand sides of which are defined by Nash functions. A Nash function is a semialgebraic analytic function. The class of Nash systems is an extension of the class of polynomial and rational systems and it is a subclass of analytic nonlinear systems.

Feedback System Theory

1976
Abstract : The two major research efforts were in the areas of (1) nonminimum-phase linear and nonlinear time-varying systems, and (2) multiple-loop single input-output systems. In both areas, the objective was to develop synthesis techniques to achieve assigned system performance specifications, despite significant uncertainty in a constrained part ...

Information systems theory

Information Systems, 1977
Abstract The overview presented covers a wide spectrum of aspects on information systems. Consequently, we had to be very brief and for detailed definitions and discussions we must refer the interested reader to the underlying literature. We have described how information systems present complex problems to their designers and we argued that it is ...

Systems Theory and the Anaesthetist

Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, 1980
The application of the various aspects of systems theory has increased steadily over the last 10 years and has proved useful in such diverse fields as surgical services (Spratt et al. 1974), public health (Haas 1974), education (Harrington 1966), nephrology (Bigelow et al.

Systems theory and engineering

1994
This paper addresses the question concerning the direction in which traditional Systems Theory should be extended in order to meet the requirements of new technologies which have been developed for the engineering professions. It is of primary importance to include the available computer technology.

Systems and Systems Theory

1997
The term system refers to a complex cognitive apparatus that organizes or orders an image of empirical phenomena in the mind of an observer according to a structural strategy. As a cognitive apparatus, the concept system consists of a cross-referenced set of ideas that produces a certain type of mental image used to represent phenomena thought of as ...

Some Comments on Systems and System Theory

International Journal of General Systems, 1986
For a long time, people have been trying to characterize or define the notion of system. After all, “systems” are supposed to be what System Theory is about. The results so far have been contradictory and unsatisfactory. This confusion at the foundations has led many to conclude that there is no such thing as a “system” and hence to deny that System ...
