An unusual cause of systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve

Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, 2001
PATIENTS who have concentric left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), often as part of a cardiomyopathy associated with hypovolemia, pericardial effusion, or anemia, at times may develop dynamic left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction. Because this disorder mimics left ventricular failure, accurate and timely diagnosis is imperative.

Systolic anterior motion of mitral valve with calcified annulus in octogenarians

Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2013
Systolic anterior motion of the mitral leaflet causing left ventricular outflow tract obstruction is commonly seen in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and also in patients with advanced mitral valve disease with excessive anterior leaflet tissue or a reduced aortic-mitral angle. We describe 2 octogenarians who presented with systolic mitral leaflet anterior

Systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve masked by general anesthesia

Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2013
Systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve is usually associated with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy that results in left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. This is sometimes treated by volume loading or negative inotropics such as beta blockers.

Systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve—beyond hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Heart, 2008
Systolic anterior motion (SAM) of the mitral valve was first reported as a feature of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in the late 1960s. In association with asymmetrical hypertrophy of the inter-ventricular septum, and characteristic histological appearances of the cardiac muscle, it was noted to be a finding quite specific to HCM.1 Initial findings ...

Echocardiographic Source of Early Anterior Systolic Motion in Late Systolic Mitral Valve Prolapse

Chest, 1980
The echocardiographic features of patients with parachute mitral valve have revealed the combination of an early systolic movement of the mitral valve and late systolic prolapse. Cross-sectional echocardiographic and angiographic studies showed that the early systolic anterior motion was produced by the presence of a flail scallop of the anterior ...
