Deep reinforcement learning for quantum Szilard engine optimization [PDF]
Machine learning techniques based on artificial neural networks have been successfully applied to solve many problems in science. One of the most interesting domains of machine learning, reinforcement learning, has a natural applicability for optimization problems in physics.

We have found the optimal conditions for work performed by the quantum Szilard engine (SZE) containing multi-particles under isothermal processes with inevitable irreversibility. We define the restorability as the probability that the reversibility of an

Two-level system hyperpolarization with a quantum Szilard engine [PDF]
By implementing a quantum Szilard engine, we show that a superconducting granular aluminum fluxonium qubit is coupled weakly to a two-level system (TLS) environment of unknown physical origin. Since the TLSs are much longer lived than the qubit, non-exponential relaxation and non-Poissonian quantum jumps can be observed.

A quantum Szilard engine without heat from a thermal reservoir
We study a quantum Szilard engine that is not powered by heat drawn from a thermal reservoir, but rather by projective measurements. The engine is constituted of a system ${ \mathcal S }$ , a weight ${ \mathcal W }$ , and a Maxwell demon ${ \mathcal D }$

A Programmable Mechanical Maxwell’s Demon [PDF]
We introduce and investigate a simple and explicitly mechanical model of Maxwell’s demon—a device that interacts with a memory register (a stream of bits), a thermal reservoir (an ideal gas) and a work reservoir (a mass that can be lifted or ...

Rapid optimal work extraction from a quantum-dot information engine [PDF]
The conversion of thermal energy into work is usually more efficient in the slow-driving regime, where the power output is vanishingly small. Efficient work extraction for fast-driving protocols remains an outstanding challenge at the nanoscale, where ...

Quantum szilard engines and breakdown of adiabaticity [PDF]
Recent advances in experimental control over mesoscopic systems through optical trapping techniques have led to a renewed theoretical interest in the study of thermodynamic properties at small scales (Takahiro Sagawa and Sano, 2010) (Martínez et al ...
