Forest Topsoil Organic Carbon Declines Under Ash Dieback. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chang Biol
Despite the rapid expansion of tree diseases across the world, there is still limited knowledge on how diseases such as ash dieback will impact carbon cycling, especially belowground. We use data from a nationally representative survey of British broadleaved woodlands covering 50 years of change and find that soil carbon has declined under ash dieback.

HIV Screening During Pregnancy in a U.S. HIV Epicenter. [PDF]

open access: yesInfect Dis Obstet Gynecol, 2020
Background. The CDC and ACOG have issued guidelines for HIV screening in pregnancy for patients living in areas with high prevalence of HIV in order to minimize perinatal vertical transmission. There is a lack of data examining providers’ compliance with these guidelines in at‐risk patient populations in the United States. Objective. To evaluate if HIV

Management Methods and Duration Induces Changes in Soil Microbial Communities of Carya cathayensis var. dabeishansis Forests. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
The interspecific relationships between soil bacterial and fungal communities were mainly collaborative in both extensive management and intensive management; Sustained forest management negatively affects soil microbial diversity, composition, and network complexity; Soil microbial community assembly processes diverge under different management ...

Declining Ecosystem Respiration Linked to Nitrogen Deposition: Insights From a 26-Year FLUXNET Record. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chang Biol
Ecosystem respiration in aging forests is expected to grow to a high level. Counter‐intuitively, in the Loobos (NL) forest, we find respiration to decrease by tens of percents over the last 26 years. This is linked to acidification of the soil due to nitrogen deposition.

Aspirin hypersensitivity diagnostic index (AHDI): In vitro test for diagnosing of N-ERD based on urinary 15-oxo-ETE and LTE4 excretion. [PDF]

open access: yesAllergy
Plasma 15‐oxo‐ETE is higher in N‐ERD than in aspirin‐tolerant asthmatics or healthy subjects. Urinary LTE4 positively correlates with the Lund‐Mackay score in N‐ERD. Urinary 15‐oxo‐ETE is higher in women than in men. An index (AHDI) based on urinary LTE4 to 15‐oxo‐ETE ratio corrected for sex and Lund‐Mackay score predicts N‐ERD with sensitivity 82% and

Representative Assemblies in Early Modern European State‐Building: Evidence from Four Experiences

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Politics &History, Volume 69, Issue 2, Page 171-189, June 2023., 2023
The article reassesses the role played by parliaments and other representative structures in the European state‐building processes. It points to a need of going beyond the traditional antagonist conception of the relationships between rulers and social forces rooted in comparative historical political science, substituting it with a theory grounded in ...

The Effect of Starch and Magnetite on the Physicochemical Properties of Polyurethane Composites for Hyperthermia Treatment

open access: yesAdvances in Polymer Technology, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
In this study, modified polyurethanes (PUs) with starch and magnetite were synthesized in the form of scaffolds for potential applications in orthopedics. Polyurethanes were synthesized using a one‐step method. PU synthesis was carried out using poly(ε‐caprolactone) 2000 as soft segments and 4,4 ′‐methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI).
