The hospital was initially formed in the summer of 1944 in Zamość as the 14th Mobile Field Hospital of the 3rd Polish Army. In November 1944, it was incorporated into the 1st AWP and renamed as the 38th Field Evacuation Hospital. At the beginning of 1945 the unit joined the war effort and was moved to Bydgoszcz, then Chełmno.
