Sublinearity of the travel-time variance for dependent first-passage percolation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Let $E$ be the set of edges of the $d$-dimensional cubic lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$, with $d\geq2$, and let $t(e),e\in E$, be nonnegative values. The passage time from a vertex $v$ to a vertex $w$ is defined as $\inf_{\pi:v\rightarrow w}\sum_{e\in\pi}t(e ...

Search for the reactions e+e- -> mu+ tau- and e+e- -> e+ tau- [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report on a search for the lepton-flavor-violating processes e+e- -> mu+ tau- and e^+e^- -> e+ tau-. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 211 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the BaBar experiment at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 10.58$ GeV.

The CMS experiment at the CERN LHC

open access: yes, 2008
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector is described. The detector operates at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. It was conceived to study proton-proton (and lead-lead) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV (5.5 TeV nucleon-nucleon) and

Measurement of the processes e+e−→e+e− and e+e−→γγ at

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 1988
Abstract Differential cross sections for the processes e + e − → e + e − (Bhabha scattering) and e + e − → γγ have been measured with the TOPAZ detector at s =52 GeV . The results agree with the predictions of quantum electrodynamics (QED).

The e-merging e-pidemic of e-scooters [PDF]

open access: yesTrauma Surgery & Acute Care Open, 2019
IntroductionSince their release in 2017, standing electric motorized scooters (eScooters) have risen in popularity as an alternative mode of transportation. We sought to examine the incidence of injury, injury patterns, prevalence of helmet and drug and alcohol use in eScooter trauma.MethodsThis was a multi-institutional retrospective case series of ...

A small minimal blocking set in PG(n,p^t), spanning a (t-1)-space, is linear [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, we show that a small minimal blocking set with exponent e in PG(n,p^t), p prime, spanning a (t/e-1)-dimensional space, is an F_p^e-linear set, provided that p>5(t/e)-11. As a corollary, we get that all small minimal blocking sets in PG(n,p^

Earthquake relocation and regional stress field around the eastern Himalayan syntaxis

open access: yes地球与行星物理论评, 2023
The eastern Himalayan syntaxis is located at the front of the collision between the Indian and Eurasian continents. This region is affected by the interaction of the Himalayan, Lhasa, Qiangtang, and Sichuan-Yunnan blocks and the Indian plate and is ...
