The 2MASS Wide-Field T Dwarf Search. IV. Hunting Out T Dwarfs with Methane Imaging [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2005
We present first results from a major program of methane filter photometry for low-mass stars and brown dwarfs. The definition of a new methane filter photometric system is described. A recipe is provided for the differential calibration of methane imaging data using existing 2MASS photometry.

Stellar equilibrium configurations of white dwarfs in the f(R, T) gravity

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2017
In this work we investigate the equilibrium configurations of white dwarfs in a modified gravity theory, namely, f(R, T) gravity, for which R and T stand for the Ricci scalar and trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively.

A Cross‐Match of 2MASS and SDSS: Newly Found L and T Dwarfs and an Estimate of the Space Density of T Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2008
We report new L and T dwarfs found in a cross-match of the SDSS Data Release 1 and 2MASS. Our simultaneous search of the two databases effectively allows us to relax the criteria for object detection in either survey and to explore the combined databases to a greater completeness level.

L-dwarf Detection from SDSS Images using Improved Faster R-CNN

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We present a data-driven approach to automatically detect L dwarfs from Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) images using an improved Faster R-CNN framework based on deep learning.

Young T-dwarf candidates in IC 348 [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2009
The determination of the lower-end of the initial mass function (IMF) provides strong constraints on star formation theories. We report here on a search for isolated planetary-mass objects in the 3 Myr-old star-forming region IC 348. Deep, narrowband CH4off and CH4on images were obtained with CFHT/WIRCam over 0.11 sq.deg.

The First Y Dwarf Data from JWST Show that Dynamic and Diabatic Processes Regulate Cold Brown Dwarf Atmospheres

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is now observing Y dwarfs, the coldest known brown dwarfs, with effective temperatures T _eff ≲ 475 K. The first published observations provide important information: not only is the atmospheric chemistry out of ...

ULAS J141623.94+134836.3: A BLUE T DWARF COMPANION TO A BLUE L DWARF [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2010
We confirm the substellar nature of ULAS J141623.94+134836.3, a common proper motion companion to the blue L dwarf SDSS J141624.08+134826.7 identified by Burningham et al. and Scholz. Low-resolution 0.8-2.4 micron spectroscopy obtained with IRTF/SpeX shows strong H2O and CH4 absorption bands, consistent with a T7.5 spectral type, and we see possible ...
