Dwarfs and Dwarf Worship [PDF]
IN the slow course of post in this Protectorate I have just received copies of the Times of September 3 containing Mr. R. G. Halliburton's paper on “Dwarf Races and Dwarf Worship,” and of September 14 and 22, containing subsequent correspondence on the same subject.

A TARGETED SEARCH FOR PECULIARLY RED L AND T DWARFS IN SDSS, 2MASS, AND WISE: DISCOVERY OF A POSSIBLE L7 MEMBER OF THE TW HYDRAE ASSOCIATION [PDF]
We present the first results from a targeted search for brown dwarfs with unusual red colors indicative of peculiar atmospheric characteristics. These include objects with low surface gravities or with unusual dust content or cloud properties.

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is now observing Y dwarfs, the coldest known brown dwarfs, with effective temperatures T _eff ≲ 475 K. The first published observations provide important information: not only is the atmospheric chemistry out of ...

SATELLITE DWARF GALAXIES IN A HIERARCHICAL UNIVERSE: THE PREVALENCE OF DWARF-DWARF MAJOR MERGERS [PDF]
Mergers are a common phenomenon in hierarchical structure formation, especially for massive galaxies and clusters, but their importance for dwarf galaxies in the Local Group remains poorly understood. We investigate the frequency of major mergers between dwarf galaxies in the Local Group using the ELVIS suite of cosmological zoom-in dissipationless ...

The Spectra of T Dwarfs I: Near-Infrared Data and Spectral Classification [PDF]
We present near-infrared spectra for a sample of T dwarfs, including eleven new discoveries made using the Two Micron All Sky Survey. These objects are distinguished from warmer (L-type) brown dwarfs by the presence of methane absorption bands in the 1 ...

Methane and ammonia in the near-infrared spectra of late-T dwarfs [PDF]
Analysis of T dwarfs using model atmospheres has been hampered by the absence of reliable line lists for methane and ammonia. Newly computed high temperature line lists for both of these important molecules are now available, so it is timely to ...

Investigating Possible Binarity for GJ 229B
GJ 229B, the first type-T brown dwarf to be discovered, has presented a tension between comparisons with evolutionary models and the larger-than-expected mass and radius values derived from spectroscopic and astrometric observations.

Time-resolved Optical Polarization Monitoring of the Most Variable Brown Dwarf
Recent atmospheric models for brown dwarfs suggest that the existence of clouds in substellar objects is not needed to reproduce their spectra, nor their rotationally induced photometric variability, believed to be due to the heterogeneous cloud coverage
