CHROMOSOMES OF TABANIDAE (DIPTERA)
Canadian Journal of Genetics and Cytology, 1972This first report on the chromosomes of Tabanidae provides descriptions of the complements of 13 species. The numbers range from 2n = 8 to 2n = 18 with considerable morphological differences between complements having the same chromosome numbers. The 56 complements analysed averaged 67.3 μ in total length.

The data are presented on the results of studying composition of gadflies from the Seversky Donets valley in the Lugansk region. 19 species were found altogether. Seasonal changes are shown in the species composition of the gadfly species which are most frequently met as well as the effect of some environmental factors on the activity of their flight.

Spiroplasmas in the Tabanidae.
Israel journal of medical sciences, 1985Spiroplasmas were observed in seven species of the family Tabanidae (horse flies and deer flies). This is the fifth family of the order Diptera now known to harbor spiroplasmas. Noncultivable spiroplasmas were seen in the hemolymph of three species of the genus Tabanus, and cultivable forms were isolated from the guts of six species in three genera ...
