The recent letter by "Perplexed Observer" (Pediatrics 65:369, 1980) opens up the taboo zone that exists in pediatrics—or, indeed, in any other aspect of medicine. Discussion of the ethics of the interaction between the infant food1 (or pharmaceutical) industries2,3 and the health profession is not considered "nice"—nevertheless, it exists.
