LES of Premixed Turbulent Combustion Using Filtered Tabulated Chemistry

open access: yesFlow, Turbulence and Combustion
AbstractThe filtered tabulated chemistry (FTACLES) approach utilizes data from pre-tabulated explicitly filtered 1D flame profiles for closure of the LES-filtered transport terms. Different methodologies are discussed to obtain a suitable progress variable c from detailed chemistry calculations of a methane/air flame.

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Implementation of solar UV and energetic particle precipitation within the LINOZ scheme in ICON-ART [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
We extended the Linearized ozone scheme – LINOZ in the ICON (ICOsahedral Nonhydrostatic) – ART (the extension for Aerosols and Reactive Trace gases) model system to include NOy formed by auroral and medium-energy electrons in the upper mesosphere and ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Numerical investigation of a helicopter combustion chamber using LES and tabulated chemistry

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mécanique, 2013
This article presents Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of a realistic aeronautical combustor device: the chamber CTA1 designed by TURBOMECA. Under nominal operating conditions, experiments show hot spots observed on the combustor walls, in the vicinity of the injectors.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Modelling CO formation in the turbulent interstellar medium

open access: yes, 2009
We present results from high-resolution three-dimensional simulations of turbulent interstellar gas that self-consistently follow its coupled thermal, chemical and dynamical evolution, with a particular focus on the formation and destruction of H2 and CO.
