Connexin43 Deficiency Leads to Ventricular Arrhythmias by Reprogramming Proline Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study demonstrated that connexin43 (Cx43) knockout caused arrhythmic phenotype and decreased proline content in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, Cx43 interacts with the amino acid transporter SNAT2 (sodium‐dependent neutral amino acid transporter), and its deficiency disrupts proline transport and metabolism.

Randomized comparison of intravenous procainamide vs. intravenous amiodarone for the acute treatment of tolerated wide QRS tachycardia: the PROCAMIO study

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal, 2016
Aims Intravenous procainamide and amiodarone are drugs of choice for well-tolerated ventricular tachycardia. However, the choice between them, even according to Guidelines, is unclear.

Remote Activation of Spinal TRPV1 by Magnetic Nanocubes Confers Cardioprotection Against Myocardial Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fe‐based magnetic nanocubes conjugated with TRPV1 antibodies (FeNCs‐TRPV1) are developed for the specific targeting of TRPV1 channels. Intraspinally injected FeNCs‐TRPV1 induces TRPV1 desensitization in rats exposed to repetitive and transient ACMF.

Antiadrenergic autoimmunity in postural tachycardia syndrome

open access: yesEuropace, 2016
Aims Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a common and debilitating cardiovascular disorder, is characterized by an exaggerated heart rate increase during orthostasis and a wide spectrum of adrenergic-related symptoms. To determine the aetiology of POTS,

Synthetic Electrocardiogram Spectrogram Generation Using Generative Adversarial Network‐Based Models: A Comparative Study

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Cardiovascular diseases are leading death causes; electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis is slow, motivating machine learning and deep learning. This study compares deep convolutional generative adversarial network, conditional GAN, and Wasserstein GAN with gradient penalty (WGAN‐GP) for synthetic ECG spectrograms; Fréchet Inception Distance (FID) and ...

Long‐Term Outcomes of Reduced Intensity Conditioning Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Systemic Sclerosis Patients with Impaired Cardiac Function

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objective High intensity conditioning autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) is standard of care for patients with advanced SSc. The role of reduced intensity conditioning (RIC) prior to AHSCT in this population remains unclear. We conducted this study to determine the long‐term outcomes of RIC AHSCT in SSc patients with cardiac ...

Prescribing competence: The pros and cons of different methods for assessment

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Evaluating a medical graduate’s competence in rational prescribing is challenging. With the aim to guide and inspire teachers, this narrative review explores different methods that can be used to assess prescribing competence. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and thus a mix of different assessment methods is needed throughout the ...
