Development of tactile display device

2014 11th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI), 2014
Tactile display device that can present tactile information for visually impaired persons has been developed. Users can get certain information by pressure from the pins raised at varying heights on arms. The effectiveness of the developed device will be discussed based on experiments.

Tactile display as a braille display for the visually disabled

2004 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37566), 2005
Tactile sensation is one of the most important sensory functions along with the auditory sensation for the visually impaired because it replaces the visual sensation of the persons with sight. In this paper, we present a tactile display device as a dynamic Braille display that is the unique tool for exchanging information among them.

On the Accuracy of Tactile Displays

2006
Inaccuracies in the reporting of finger positions from electronic tactile displays can result in errors in the audio presentation of multi-modal applications. In this paper, we conduct an experiment to examine the accuracy of one such device. Given the results of this experiment, we present a collection of recommendations for the spacing of objects ...

Surface texture and pseudo tactile sensation displayed by a MEMS-based tactile display

2012 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2012
We demonstrate display of artificial tactile feeling using large displacement MEMS actuator arrays. Each actuator consists of a piezoelectric actuator and hydraulic displacement amplification mechanism (HDAM) that encapsulates incompressible liquid in a micro-chamber with two flexible polymer membranes.

A study of tactile sensation and magnitude on electrostatic tactile display

2018 IEEE Haptics Symposium (HAPTICS), 2018
Touchscreen interfaces have become increasingly popular worldwide. However, few commercial touchscreens enable reactive tactile signals. We use lateral-force-based tactile feedback devices that employ electrostatic force. Our goal is to realize more realistic tactile sensation to the user. Previous researches evaluated by using multiple axes determined

Characterization of Ultrasound Tactile Display

2016
Traditional haptic interfaces require physical contact between the haptic device and the user. An elegant and novel solution is to provide contactless tactile stimulation via airborne acoustic radiation pressure. However, the characteristics of contactless tactile displays are not well studied in the literature.

Tactile Vision Substitution with Tablet and Electro-Tactile Display

2016
We developed a device that converts visual information on a tablet into tactile information on the fingertip. To achieve this we mount optical sensors and a tactile display on the fingertip. Our first prototype using a vibrator for each finger revealed that it was difficult to recognize the information of the display, mainly because of its low ...
