Anomalies & Tadpoles

open access: yes, 2000
We show that massless RR tadpoles in vacuum configurations with open and unoriented strings are always related to anomalies. RR tadpoles arising from sectors of the internal SCFT with non-vanishing Witten index are in one-to-one correspondence with conventional irreducible anomalies.

Effects of light and group size on the activity of wood frog tadpoles (Rana sylvatica) and their response to a shadow stimulus

open access: yesActa Herpetologica, 2009
Tadpoles are known to behaviorally respond to cues from aquatic predators. However, there are several additional factors that might affect tadpole behavior.

Anuran tadpoles inhabiting a fluoride-rich stream: diets and morphological indicators

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
We in situ assessed the influence of natural fluoride concentrations in lotic freshwater ecosystems on diet and morphology of Boana cordobae tadpoles. Two streams were sampled in Argentina: Los Vallecitos stream (LF-LV) and Los Cerros Negros stream (HF ...

LOCAL TADPOLE GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2012
Tadpole galaxies have a giant star-forming region at the end of an elongated intensity distribution. Here we use SDSS data to determine the ages, masses, and surface densities of the heads and tails in 14 local tadpoles selected from the Kiso and Michigan surveys of UV-bright galaxies, and we compare them to tadpoles previously studied in the Hubble ...

Tadpoles and gauge symmetries

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
Abstract The tadpole conjecture proposes that complex structure moduli stabilisation by fluxes that have low tadpole charge can be realised only at special points in moduli space, leading generically to (large) gauge symmetries. Here we provide an exhaustive survey of the gauge symmetries arising in F-theory flux compactifications ...

Bilateral tadpole pupils [PDF]

open access: yesNeurology, 2016
A 19-year-old man with congenital erythropoietic protoporphyria and without family history or prior migraine attacks had recurrent seizures, which were controlled on propofol. Eye examination performed while awake revealed nonreacting bilateral tadpole pupils (TPs) (figure), without other neurologic deficits.

Effects of mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis) cues on wood frog (Lithobates sylvaticus) tadpole activity

open access: yesActa Herpetologica, 2011
We examined the changes in activity of wood frog (Lithobates sylvaticus) tadpoles exposed to combinations of visual, chemical, and mechanical cues of the invasive mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis).

Making friends: social attraction in larval green and golden bell frogs, Litoria aurea. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Socio-ecological models combine environmental and social factors to explain the formation of animal groups. In anurans, tadpole aggregations have been reported in numerous species, but the factors driving this behaviour remain unclear.

Antipredator pheromones in amphibians: a review

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2006
Specific chemosignals (pheromones) have an important role in the antipredator behaviour in amphibians and other vertebrates. However, relatively little is known about the occurrence of chemical alarm cues just in amphibians.

Behavioral responses of tadpoles of Duttaphrynus melanostictus (Anura: Bufonidae) to cues of starved and fed dragonfly larvae

open access: yesPhyllomedusa: Journal of Herpetology, 2020
Behavioral responses of tadpoles of Duttaphrynus melanostictus (Anura: Bufonidae) to cues of starved and fed dragonfly larvae. Tadpoles of Duttaphrynus melanostictus use chemoreception to detect kairomonal cues and excretory metabolites from predatory ...
