Parasitology Today, 1988
Toeniids are large tapeworms, common throughout the world. Two species, Taenia saginata and T. solium are common parasites of man. The adult worms parasitize the small intestine, while immature stages (metacestodes or cysticerci) develop mainly in cattle in the case of T. saginata or pigs in the case of T. solium. Cysticerci of T.

Metabolism of steroid hormones by Taenia solium and Taenia crassiceps cysticerci
The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2006Previous in vitro experiments showed that both, Taenia crassiceps and Taenia solium cysticerci have the ability to metabolize exogenous androstenedione to testosterone. Here we evaluate on the capacity of both cysticerci to synthesize several sex steroid hormones, using different hormonal precursors.

Experimental Parasitology, 1967
Abstract Selected chemicals have been applied to the eggs of four taeniid species and the effects observed before and after artificial digestion. Some comparison is made between the species. The effects are grouped under (i) adsorption, which inhibits hatching and is usually reversible, (ii) dissolution of the whole egg by hypochlorites with an ...

In Vitro Biochemical Control of Taenia solium and Taenia saginata Eggs
Acta ParasitologicaThe present study evaluated in vitro the action of the plant protease papain (EC 3.4.22.2) on intact eggs of Taenia solium and Taenia saginata. Two experimental groups were composed for each of the gastrointestinal helminths: control group (G1) and treated group (G2).

Taenia saginata and Taenia solium: reciprocal models.
Acta Leidensia, 1991Taenia solium and Taenia saginata are of such close taxonomic relationship that each can be regarded as a model for the other. In these particular species the only available hosts are either humans or large domesticated animals. This has imposed severe safety and/or economic restrictions on the extent of the experimental work which could be attempted ...
