Differential diagnosis of Taenia saginata and Taenia saginata asiatica taeniasis through PCR

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2004
New multiplex-PCR and PCR-linked restriction fragment length polymorphism protocols, derived from Taenia saginata HDP2 DNA sequence, have been designed that allow the simultaneous and specific identification of T. saginata and Taenia saginata asiatica.

The distribution of quinacrine in Taenia saginata

Experimental Parasitology, 1954
Abstract The distribution of quinacrine in six beef tapeworms, Taenia saginata , expelled by this drug has been studied with the aid of a fluorescent microscope. The observation that quinacrine possesses a great affinity for the holdfast organs may be of value in explaining the teniafugal action of quinacrine.

TAENIA SAGINATA

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1915
Segments of tapeworm sent in to the U. S. Bureau of Animal Industry by Dr. Louis T. Cassidy of Norwich, Conn., were found on examination to be Taenia saginata . Among the segments was one presenting a meristic variation consisting in the unilateral duplication of the genital pore and canals in one segment with what is apparently the formation of a ...

Taenia saginata: Production and characterization of monoclonal antibodies against Taenia saginata metacestode antigens

Experimental Parasitology, 2010
Cysticercosis is a major cause of economic loss in bovine production due to meat condemnation. Chemotherapy is being used in Brazilian cattle and a diagnostic test to improve the treatment program is desired. We produced monoclonal antibodies against crude (TAEB) and cyst fluid (TAEF) Taenia saginata metacestode antigens using immunized BALB/c mice ...

Recent hybridization between Taenia asiatica and Taenia saginata

Parasitology International, 2012
Five Taenia tapeworms collected from humans in Tibetan Plateau, Sichuan, China, where three species of human Taenia are sympatrically endemic, were examined for the mitochondrial cox1 gene and two nuclear genes, ef1 and elp. Phylogenetic analyses of these genes revealed that two adult worms showed nuclear-mitochondrial discordance, suggesting that they

Differentiation of Taenia saginata and Taenia solium by enzyme electrophoresis

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1977
Forty-four Taenia saginata and seven T. solium specimens were collected in Nigeria. Extracts of these worms and of their metacestodes were compared by enzyme electrophoresis. The mobility of glucose phosphate isomerase was consistently faster with T. saginata than with T. solium. Extracts of the strobilate and cysticercus forms of the same species gave
