Active volcanoes are key laboratories to carry out detailed research -and monitoring- about the history of magmas before, during and after eruptions. Tagoro, the submarine active volcano at El Hierro Island (Canary archipelago), is a highly favorable case to assess and monitor its daily ongoing behaviour, as well as to study the links between the ...

The Canary Islands showed its latest eruptive activity south of El Hierro Island in 2011, resulting in the formation of the newest underwater volcano in the area, currently known as Tagoro. The submarine volcanic eruption perturbed the water column with important physical–chemical anomalies and promoted the appearance of new geomorphic features and ...

<p>Monitoring the activity of a volcanic unrest in an archipelago is always a challenging task. Difficulties are even greater if we are also dealing with monogenetic volcanism, without a defined magma chamber, where each unrest can be related to a different magma intrusion, following different ascending paths towards an eruptive vent that

Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America (113º. 2017. Honolulu) Hydrothermal iron‐rich crusts have been recovered from Tagoro submarine volcano (El Hierro, Canary Islands) in the central Atlantic. A novel hydrothermal field was discovered and filmed by ROV at the summit (89-120 m depth) of the new volcano formed in 2012.
