Tags, micro-tags and tag editing: improving internet search
SPIE Proceedings, 2009Social tagging is an emerging methodology that allows individual users to assign semantic keywords to content on the web. Popular web services allow the community of users to search for content based on these user-defined tags. Tags are typically attached to a whole entity such as a web page (e.g., del.icio.us), a video (e.g., YouTube), a product ...

On the distinctiveness of tags in collaborative tagging systems
Proceedings of the International Conference on Web Intelligence, Mining and Semantics, 2011We study in a quantitative way whether the most popular tags in a collaborative tagging system are distinctive features when looking at the underlying content. For any set of annotations being helpful in searching, this property must necessarily hold to a strong degree.

Tag configuration matcher for geo-tagging
Proceedings of the 21st ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems, 2013It is common today for even consumer-grade cameras to tag images and videos with the location of the imagery on the earth's surface. Some imagery, however, does not have a geo-location tag and it thus becomes necessary to ascertain the location of the camera, image, or objects in the scene. For such imagery, users must work hard to deduce geo-locations

This paper presents a novel content-based query-by-tag music search system for an untagged music database. We design a new tag query interface that allows users to input multiple tags with multiple levels of preference (denoted as an MTML query) by colorizing desired tags in a web-based tag cloud interface.

The Art of Tagging: Measuring the Quality of Tags
2008Collaborative tagging, supported by many social networking websites, is currently enjoying an increasing popularity. The usefulness of this largely available tag data has been explored in many applications including web resources categorization, deriving emergent semantics, web search etc.

The Efficacy of Tags in Social Tagging Systems
2008Social tagging systems are a popular means for sharing resources. However, social tagging depends on individual knowledge. We evaluate the effectiveness of tags in describing the resources using support vector machines via classification. We achieved precision and recall at 90.22% and 99.27% respectively, with an average accuracy of 89.84%. Our results

Exploring the Influence of Tagging Motivation on Tagging Behavior
2010The reasons why users tag have remained mostly elusive to quantitative investigations. In this paper, we distinguish between two types of motivation for tagging: While categorizers use tags mainly for categorizing resources for later browsing, describers use tags mainly for describing resources for later retrieval.
