On Tail Biting Convolutional Codes
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1986In this paper, we introduce generalized tail biting encoding as a means to ameliorate the rate deficiency caused by zero-tail convolutional encoding. This technique provides an important link between quasi-cyclic block and convolutional codes. Optimum and suboptimum decoding algorithms for these codes are described and their performance determined by ...

Abstract Extract Sir:- Over the last year or so we have seen an apparent increase in the number of pigs with tail bites at the Tomoana plant, Judging from talks with works people, Meat Inspectors, and colleagues, the condition seems to be accepted as an unavoidable affliction connected with industrialised pig-rearing.

Tail docking and tail biting in pigs
Veterinary Record, 2019I write to voice my concern over a recent ethics case study published in In Practice (March 2019, vol 41, pp 88-91) that outlines a particular scenario on a pig farm where tail docking of pigs is addressed. This particular ethics case comes at a time when there is a huge amount of drive and progress being made within the pig sector to change protocols

The effect of biting tails and having tails bitten in pigs
Physiology & Behavior, 2012Tail-biting is a behavioral abnormality which compromises the welfare of pigs. The goal of this study was to characterize the tail-biting phenotype using behavior and measures of heart-rate (HR) and its variability (HRV) in pigs. Thirty pigs were categorized as tail-biters (n=10), tail-bite victims (n=10), and control pigs (n=10) based on the frequency

Tail-Biting LDPC Convolutional Codes
2007 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2007In this paper, the tail-biting version of the low-density parity-check convolutional codes (LDPCCCs) is introduced and investigated. The definition of the tail-biting LDPCCCs (TB-LDPCCCs) is given through their parity-check matrices and the basic ideas behind the architectures of the encoders and decoders for these codes are also presented. In addition,

Tail-biting in outdoor pig production
The Veterinary Journal, 2006A study was performed in five identical outdoor production units in the same geographic area using growing-finishing pigs of similar genetic makeup, age, diet and feed management. The severity of tail-biting (TS) was scored 1-4. The average group prevalence of bitten tails at slaughter on different farms was between 14.1+/-2.1% and 20.1+/-3.0 ...

Tail-Biting Globally-Coupled LDPC Codes
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2019This paper presents a new type of globally-coupled low-density parity-check (GC-LDPC) codes whose base matrix has a cyclic structure in the global part. Therefore, the resulting codes are referred to as tail-biting GC-LDPC (TB-GC-LDPC) codes. We propose two methods to construct TB GC quasi-cyclic LDPC (TB-GC-QC-LDPC) codes. For the first method, we

Versatile graphs for tail-biting convolutional codes
2008 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2008A unified method to derive Tanner graph related to tail-biting convolutional codes (CCs) is presented. The graphs obtained by this method have low complexity even for codes with a large number of states. It is shown that under certain conditions, a unique graph can be used for decoding of recursive and non-recursive CCs.

On the Algebraic Structure of Linear Tail-Biting Trellises
IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2015Tail-biting trellises are important graphical representations of codes, which can be simpler to decode than conventional trellises. While conventional trellises are well understood, the general theory of (tail-biting) trellises is still under development.
