Cyclotides: From Structure to Function.

Chemical Reviews, 2019
This Review explores the class of plant-derived macrocyclic peptides called cyclotides. We include an account of their discovery, characterization, and distribution in the plant kingdom as well as a detailed analysis of their sequences and structures ...

Estimation of the functional Weibull tail-coefficient

2016
We present a nonparametric family of estimators for the tail coefficient of a Weibull tail-distribution when a functional covariate is available. Our estimators are based on a kernel estimator of extreme conditional quantiles, extending a previous work to the infinite dimensional case.

Head-Tail Expressions for Interval Functions

IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals of Electronics, Communications and Computer Sciences, 2014
SUMMARY This paper shows a method to represent interval functions by using head-tail expressions. The head-tail expressions represent greaterthanGT(X : A )f unctions,less-than LT(X : B )f unctions, and interval functions IN0(X : A, B )m ore efficiently than sum-of-products expressions.

The kinesin superfamily: tails of functional redundancy

Trends in Cell Biology, 1991
Kinesin is a microtubule-based motility protein that mediates axonal transport and perhaps other intracellular movements in eukaryotic cells. Recent research has indicated that the principal component of kinesin, the kinesin heavy chain, is but one member of an extended superfamily of kinesin-like microtubule motor proteins.

Structure and Function of the Branched Receptor-Binding Complex of Bacteriophage CBA120.

Journal of Molecular Biology, 2019
Bacteriophages recognize their host cells with the help of tail fiber and tailspike proteins that bind, cleave, or modify certain structures on the cell surface.

Saddlepoint Approximations to Density Functions, Tail Probabilities and Tail Expectations

2018
In many applications in financial engineering, it is necessary to consider approximating the tail probabilities and tail expectations of random variables whose closed forms may not be tractable. Suppose the first few moments of the underlying distribution of a random variable are known, one may apply the Edgeworth type expansion up to the order of the ...

Tail recursion by using function generalization

ACM SIGCSE Bulletin, 2009
The design of tail recursive algorithms may require thinking about iteration rather than recursion. This paper provides a methodology for deriving tail recursive functions that is based on declarative programming and the concept of function generalization, which allow to avoid iterative thinking.

Quantification in tail-recursive function definitions

Proceedings of the sixth international workshop on the ACL2 theorem prover and its applications - ACL2 '06, 2006
We investigate the logical issues behind axiomatizing equations that contain both recursive calls and quantifiers in ACL2. We identify a class of such equations, named extended tail-recursive equations, that can be uniformly introduced in the logic. We point out some potential benefits of this axiomatization, and discuss the logical impediments behind ...
