Tail asymptotics of randomly weighted large risks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we are concerned with a sample of asymptotically independent risks. Tail asymptotic probabilities for linear combinations of randomly weighted order statistics are approximated under various assumptions, where the individual tail behaviour ...

Estimating Tails of Probability Distributions

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1987
Let \(X_ 1,...,X_ n\) be a large random sample from cdf F(x), and let \(Y_ 1,...,Y_ N\) be the excesses over a threshold u, \(Y_ j=X_ i-u\) if \(X_ i\) is the j th exceedance. To estimate the upper tail of F(x), the distribution of the \(Y_ j\) is approximated by the generalized Pareto distribution \(G(y;\sigma,k)=1-(1-ky/\sigma)^{1/k}\), \(k\neq 0\), \

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

extremefit: A Package for Extreme Quantiles

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2018
extremefit is a package to estimate the extreme quantiles and probabilities of rare events. The idea of our approach is to adjust the tail of the distribution function over a threshold with a Pareto distribution.

Relative errors for bootstrap approximations of the serial correlation coefficient

open access: yes, 2013
We consider the first serial correlation coefficient under an AR(1) model where errors are not assumed to be Gaussian. In this case it is necessary to consider bootstrap approximations for tests based on the statistic since the distribution of errors is ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Highway Freight Transportation Diversity of Cities Based on Radiation Models

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
Using a unique data set containing about 15.06 million truck transportation records in five months, we investigate the highway freight transportation diversity of 338 Chinese cities based on the truck transportation probability pij from one city to ...

Tail probabilities for infinite series of regularly varying random vectors

open access: yes, 2008
A random vector $X$ with representation $X=\sum_{j\geq0}A_jZ_j$ is considered. Here, $(Z_j)$ is a sequence of independent and identically distributed random vectors and $(A_j)$ is a sequence of random matrices, `predictable' with respect to the sequence $

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...
