An electron Talbot-Lau interferometer and magnetic field sensing
Applied Physics Letters, 2013We present a demonstration of a three grating Talbot-Lau interferometer for electrons. As a proof of principle, the interferometer is used to measure magnetic fields. The device is similar to the classical Moiré deflectometer. The possibility to extend this work to build a scaled-up electron deflectometer or interferometer for sensitive magnetic field ...

Progress toward a large-scale ion Talbot-Lau interferometer
Physical Review A, 2017The Talbot-Lau interferometer is a proven tool to perform measurements in the near-field regime. It has been extensively used for investigating the wave nature of electrons, atoms, and complex organic molecules. However, when designing devices with high geometrical acceptances, which would be desirable when dealing with low-intensity sources of ...

Spectrum optimization of a Talbot-Lau interferometer towards clinical application
SPIE Proceedings, 2012X-ray phase-contrast imaging (XPCI) using a Talbot-Lau interferometer is a promising modality to increase soft-tissue contrast in medical imaging and has drawn the attention of many groups worldwide. Nevertheless, due to the many free parameters to be optimized in a XPCI setup, there's a long way to go to find the optimal geometry, design energy and

Spectroscopic dark-field imaging using a grating-based Talbot-Lau interferometer
SPIE Proceedings, 2012In recent years X-ray phase-contrast imaging became applicable in the hard X-ray regime through the use of a grating-based Talbot-Lau interferometer and was demonstrated to be a promising technique to gain contrast in different fields of medical imaging.

Model-driven phase retrieval network for single-shot x-ray Talbot–Lau interferometer imaging
Optics Letters, 2020The single-shot x-ray Talbot–Lau interferometer-based differential phase contrast (DPC) imaging is able to accelerate time-consuming data acquisition; however, the extracted phase image suffers from severe image artifacts. Here, we propose to estimate the DPC image via a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) incorporated with the physical imaging ...

Dual energy phase contrast x-ray imaging with Talbot-Lau interferometer
Journal of Applied Physics, 2010In weakly absorbing materials such as polymers and soft tissue, x-ray phase sensitive imaging methods can provide substantially enhanced contrast compared to classical, absorption based radiography. For specific applications, the latter can be applied in a dual energy scheme that helps to identify, discriminate and/or quantify materials. In this paper,

Sensitivity of x-ray phase tomography based on Talbot and Talbot-Lau interferometer
SPIE Proceedings, 2008The sensitivity of X-ray phase tomography based on Talbot(-Lau) interferometry is discussed. A criterion is described to evaluate the superiority of the technique in comparison to the conventional absorption-contrast method. An experimental result of X-ray phase tomography with a Talbot interferometer is compared with the criterion.

X-ray phase contrast imaging by compact Talbot–Lau interferometer with a single transmission grating
Optics Letters, 2014We performed x-ray phase contrast imaging (XPCI) by Talbot-Lau interferometer using only a single transmission grating. Multiline metal targets embedded in a diamond substrate were irradiated with electrons to generate an array of x-ray lines of 1 μm width, which allowed XPCI within a 1 m source-detector distance in a configuration without a source or ...

Experiments with a pulsed Talbot Lau matter-wave interferometer

X-ray phase scanning setup for non-destructive testing using Talbot-Lau interferometer
SPIE Proceedings, 2016X-ray grating interferometry has a great potential for X-ray phase imaging over conventional X-ray absorption imaging which does not provide significant contrast for weakly absorbing objects and soft biological tissues. X-ray Talbot and Talbot-Lau interferometers which are composed of transmission gratings and measure the differential X-ray phase ...
